Pale Tussock Calliteara pudibunda (Linnaeus)

This is a very small specimen of C. pudibunda, I guess. It is walking on a dry eucaliptus leaf.

The caterpillars of the Pale Tussock are rather distinctive and so, should make these caterpillars relatively easy to identify during the summer to early autumn.
Pale to bright yellow or greenish yellow in colour, and up to 40mm longwhen fully grown, these caterpillars possess sometimes quite thickly tufted hair projecting from the sides and top of their body, with a longer red-orange horn-like structure at the tail end of the body.
Black bands separate the yellow segments of the body and getprogressively thinner from head to tail. These black bands become more obvious if the caterpillar curls up. Overall, this conspicuous appearance is a clear indication to predators that the caterpillars should not be eaten

F18 - ISO800 - 1/800 - Flash - Handheld.

Hello Felipe and Cristina
Very lovely macro of this caterpillar. It's difficult with such a small DOF you have making macro's that you get such a overall sharp picture.
Colors are very good.
Very well done.

Hola par,
Extraordinaria imagen!
JM

I have to say that few times I tried to take picture of this species, but never with so good effect like your.

Menudo hallazgo, Felipe!
¡Qué cosita tan curiosa y tan linda!

Saludos Felipe y Cristina.

Looks like F/18 did the trick here...All those projections are well documented :)

Hi Filipe

This is a very interesting subject!
The spikes on this caterpillar are simply huge and amazing and very well captured by you!
I also like the contrast between the subject and the environment here a lot.
Excellent DOF and flash work, as well.

Bravo and TFS

Buenas Felipe

Hi Felipe, splendid caterpiller with excellent sharpness and great details, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio
