[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found this Natterjack Toad "running" on a coal seam close to an almost dried pool. The area is an abandoned exploitation of hard coal of very poor rendition and quality at present happily closed. It used to feed a thermal power station near this area, which is still active.

The Natterjack Toad (Epidalea calamita) is native to sandy and heathland areas of northen Europe, although it is the most common species in my county.

Adults are distinguished by a yellow line down the middle of the back. They have relatively long legs (you can have a look at the picture uploaded as WS, not good quality, but useful to illustrate it), and this gives them a distinctive gait, contrasting with the hopping movement of many other toad species. In fact, the direct translation of the name in my native language, catalan, is "running toad" (gripau corredor).

Hello Marta,
this is quite a striking image, the toad contrasts against the dark coal seam dramatically.
There is a small population of Natterjacks on a nature reserve near my home, but i have yet to find them despite looking alot! A very well seen image, thanks for sharing

A very good shot of this natterjack toad.The coal makes a wonderful contrasting back drop to show off the toad's textures and details.Well focused with very good sharpness.Very good exposure.TFS

Hola Marta,

me encanta la foto por sus contrastes y la luz que ilumina al sujeto haciéndolo resaltar sobre el fondo oscuro. El que esté de espaldas también añade al dramatismo del contraste de lo vivo con el carbón inanimado que simboliza suciedad y polución.
Técnicamente la exposición es perfecta, la nitidez buena, pero falta un poquito de profundidad de campo, subiendo la iso un poquito y disparando a f8 tal vez?.

A very unusual and well done shot of this toad. I would never think you would find one on coal! The contrast between the dark and light is wonderful. Good details on the toad. Interesting notes too.

y significativo contraste la roca donde está...
original captura y encuadre.
