[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the first post of osprey from my Spain trip. I have few interesting shots of this bird, with captured fish and how ofspray have been attacked from the sea birds trying to take fish from osprey.
This shot was photographed handhold with my heavy equipment in area called El Parque Natural de las Salinas de Santa Pola. I usually use tripod but not on this one. Actually I was on way from place and tripod was in the car when this bird show up. I took my camera and made few long distance shots handhold. I was pleased with quality and details even after cropping 60% of image.
Captured @ 800mm with manual camera settings...

The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), also known colloquially as seahawk, fish hawk or fish eagle, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a medium-sized raptor, reaching 60 centimetres (24 in) in length with a 1.8 metres (6 ft) wingspan. It is brown on the upperparts and predominantly whitish on the head and underparts, with a brownish eyepatch and wings.

The Osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location which is near a body of water and provides an adequate food supply. It is found on all continents except Antarctica although in South America it occurs only as a non-breeding migrant.

As its other common names suggest, the Osprey's diet consists almost exclusively of fish. It has evolved specialised physical characteristics and exhibits some unique behaviours to assist in hunting and catching prey. As a result of these unique characteristics, it has been given its own taxonomic genus, Pandion and family, Pandionidae. Four subspecies are usually recognised. Despite its propensity to nest near water, the Osprey is not a sea-eagle...

Hej Ralf,
This is a great capture of the Osprey which we don't see too often here although one couple nest regularly by Lake Hammarsjön. Excellent capture showing the sharp details and beautiful colours of this lovely bird of prey. A fine composition too.
Many thanks, Ulla

Hi Ralf

A very beautiful close-up of this splendid flying osprey!
The details you managed to get from his head, eye and feathers are magnificent and the overall exposure of the shot is impeccable! You managed to get excellent details and colors even from the darkest areas, too.
The composition is lovely and the result is amazing, taking into consideration the weight of our equipment and that the shot was handheld.

I would very much like to see your other captures of this stunning bird - the ones you mention in your note. I hope you will post them in TN oneday :)
Anyway, wonderful work!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Beautiful shot, Ralf.
Wonder what shutter speed? Doesn't really matter...
Must be difficult to hold this lens upwards. I know.
You managed well apparently, resulting in a beautiful in flight Osprey. Wonderful bird.
Well done

Hi Ralf,
like Annick said, you must be a mucled man to take this pictures handheld with over 5 kgs of optica. Stunning picture! Assuming that you've sharpened the picture I think it is slightly overdone. Escpecially on the forewing and the head the contrast of the black and whites is quite high. Anyway, just a personal thought.
Good work,
Jacob

hello Ralf

i love the POV of your image, the way his wings are open
and the way you framed this bird of prey in the image,
and the there is a excellent light too on the subject, TFS
