[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today's post is from El Fondo nature reserve located in Alicante area. This shot was photographed from something between tower/hide. It was really beautiful view early in the morning with many different kind of birds on this lake. Light was so good and magical making pleasant atmosphere.

I found out that 400mm was not good enough to get close to the object and fill the frame. So I had to use 2X extender to get closer. I made few shots and it was better but still not enough. I made combination 400mm + 2x + 1.4x and get closer enough to make this and few more shot without to be discovered from this beautiful birds...

Technical info about this shot for Canon user only:
If you have 1.4 and 2X extender and both are from Canon than you can't use both of them stitched together! To make this combination to work you mast to have one extender from another company. I have Kenko Telekonverter 2x PRO300 which I used in combination with Canons 1.4x. When you later check information about shot you will found that camera register only Canons extender and not both. So my shot info for this shot is only 560mm but this is not the true...

Captured with 1D Mark III @ 1120mm (and I didn't count 1D series 1.3X factor) and manual camera settings ISO-1000. Distance was about 60m and maybe more...

Flamingos or flamingoes are gregarious wading birds in the genus Phoenicopterus and family Phoenicopteridae. They are found in both the Western and Eastern Hemispheres, but are more numerous in the former. There are four species in the Americas while two exist in the Old World. Two species, the Andean and the James's Flamingo, are often placed in the genus Phoenicoparrus instead of Phoenicopterus...

Hello Ralf,

Lovely shot of pink Flamingo.
Very pleasing morning side lighting that shine the anterior part of bird's long neck and body, giving the 3D effect.
The water is very calm. I like one piece of white feather floating there, giving a sense of stillness.
The ripple at the bird's reflexion and the shadow at the legs (plus the legs position) give a sense of movement.
So, it stillness in motion!.

Superb capture of this Flamingo in a lovely pose. The light is beautiful and so are the colours and the reflection in the water. Excellent sharpness too. Brilliant composition!

Hi Ralf,

I agree with my neighbour down under. This is a great shot! I like the simplicity of the capture. Every detail is just right. The pose of the bird, the reflection in the water and last but not least the feather floating on the surface. Superb capture.

Such a nice pose. I like the rippled reflection. I almost did't notice the feather in the water. That is the strength of your subject.

I love this photo so much, because of the clarity and the beautiful light.
But I am amazed that you could come so close there.....I tried to do this also, but cannot find a right place to shoot. And most of the time the birds are on the other side of the lake, ha,ha...
