Todays post is just a simple dove, taken in Playa Paraiso, Tenerife where
I spent two week vacation.
Nothing special with this picture except the great light. For me who came from
the dark grey winter light this was amazing. I never seen such a bright light.
I like the dove who is sitting on the white wall and looking out over the ocean and
the really big waves who is rolling in.

PLS
No points for this, I have given them up like some others. I have turn of the points, so save your green ones.

Good Rock Dove features include a neat white rump, two broad clear black wing-bars and a head which is clearly darker than the rest of the body. Feral Pigeons can, of course, have various plumages but are often darker overall, with extra areas of white or brown and often grey, not white, rumps. In all plumages, Rock Doves have more sharply pointed wings and cleaner, whiter under wings than other pigeons.
Truly pure, wild Rock Doves probably only occur on coastal cliffs in west and north Scotland, the Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland. However, birds at sites such as Flamborough Head look extremely close to pure-bred Rock Doves. Feral Pigeons are found in towns and cities everywhere, the most famous ones being those in Trafalgar Square!
Feral Pigeons seem to be everywhere but there are very few wild Rock Doves in northern Europe, except perhaps around the coasts of Ireland and Scotland. They are much more widespread in southern Europe where they can be found at many rocky cliffs and gorges.
Estimates are hard since the distinction between the Rock Dove and the far more abundant Feral Pigeon is scientifically difficult in all but a few populations. It is likely that the British and Irish population exceeds 100 000 pairs of pure Rock Doves but these have decreased due to inbreeding with Feral Pigeons.
For similar reasons to those in Britain, European population numbers are difficult to estimate but likely to be several million.

Hi Gert,
As you said, a simple dove - but the image is a fine one.
The details are great as is the blurred BG and composition.
TFS, Shir

Hi Gert
Very elegant and romantic shot :-) Nice blue color tones. Good sharpness and exposure
I like it very much
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hallo Gert
A simple dove! What are you talking about? This is splendid with a capital S, let me repeat Splendid. Looking at the thumbnail, I knew I'll like this image over a thousand because I saw a hint of purple. This one is going straight to my theme called "My purple obsession" and straight to my favourites.Wow this is really spectacular. I love the way you have captured this bird from the rear. This way we can see the delightful colours and patterns of its feathers. Everything on this photo is just awesome. But what I like the most is that shining purple patch. That just does it for me. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Hi Gert

Just a simple dove but beautiful colours and good sharpness.
The dove looks to the good site from the picture.

Hej Gert,
That's the trouble when we have too many of a species we don't normally notice their beauty any more, just take it for granted. This one is very beautiful and with the bright light you've got a lovely capture with impressive sharp details and fantastic colours. I like the soft background too and the fine composition.
TFS and all the best, Ulla

PS Var bodde ni på Teneriffa? Vi har varit där ett par gånger, sista gången hade vi en hemsk sandstorm i flera dagar, annars har det varit fint där.

Hej Gert,
The contrast between the sharp tamduva and the wonderful OOF blue and white (sky?) BG is wonderful, as are the pose and POV that shows the iridescent colours very well.
This particular feral pigeon looks very like the original Rock Dove form.
Thanks for sharing this one and for showing your shots of the Blue Chaffinch that were of excellent quality even if you wanted to take shots at an even higher standard.
Hälsningar,
Ivan

Hi Gert,

You took full advantage of the wonderful light. You show how beautiful a pigeon is. The irridescent colors, the magnificent eye, the face and wings are all perfect. The sky is just gorgeous.

Hi Gert

(While I'm still on probation I am allowed to exit the dog box for short periods every day so let me try and make the most of the moment.)

When I looked at this posting and read your notes my thoughts was already forming to reply with: "A SIMPLE DOVE?" huh? I mean "A SIMPLE DOVE???" But, then I saw that MS. P already used that line and I decided not to do it too so I'll rather try a dissimilar approach. Ok, so let me try something from a different angle.

"JUST a simple dove?" You must be fooling with our minds my friend (chuckle). There is nothing simple about this dove. It is absolutely gorgeous. The problem is that when we see something of beauty too many times we tend to get amblyopic and then we do not see the beauty anymore. However, what I see here is not "just a simple dove", but a lovely bird and add to that the right light and a camera in the hands of a master and you're bound to get nothing else but visual delight or may I even call it optical ecstasy.

The composition is great with ample space surrounding the bird and the white triangle formed by the wall, the colours are spectacular and especially the radiating features of the neck feathers, the exposure was spot-on, and the soft colours of the OOF and well removed BG is an ocular bonus.

Great stuff MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. Any luck with the sought after Blue Chaffinch?

Hi Gert,
A very impressive quality image!
Certainly the light is so good that produced that stunning sharp details.
The simplicity of the white wall, the blue ocean and specially the dove's pose makes of this a remarkable image.
My compliments and thanks for share it.

Hi Gert

Vacation in Tenerife...mmmm...now that sound absolutely FANTASTIC! ;)
You are right: in this picture the light really is special and it makes all the features of this lovely dove look amazing!
I like the stripes on its wings but also that great colorful reflection from the back of its neck.
Very beautifully composed, impeccably sharp and spot-on with the exposure.
A true "Great-classic" :)

Bravo and TFS

Hi Gert. we get the wood Pigeons in the garden at home but never Doves. I like the way the light shows the colours around the neck. The detail in the feathers is sharp. it gives a 3D look to the picture. well done TFS.

Have posted a note for you on the fourm.
