[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Butterfly photographed at Palmitos parc. There weren't much butterflies around but the big advantage was that these at least stayed longer than 2 seconds !

I do not know what kind it is, so help from the experts is welcome.

Thanks for looking

Hi Karin,
a beautiful and noble butterfly, seems that the wings have light-points, I love it

Hola Karin
Preciosa imagen
Me encanta el contraste de las alas, del negro oscuro al blanco tan brillante
Sobre que especie puede ser, ni idea, por los colores blanco y negro me recuerda a una "Brintesia circe", pero no es la misma.
Saludos

Hallo Karin,
a nice picture of this butterfly. It's name is

-- Hypolimnas bolina --
-- Family: Nymphalidae

An interesting finding for Gran Canaria. This species usually does not occur on the Canary Islands. It is wide-spread in Africa, Madagascar and the Indoaustralian region.
For the Canary Islands, a related species - Hypolimnas misippus - is known, but this can easily be distinguished from bolina.

So you present an excellent picture and a new species for Gran Canaria!

Best wishes and further good luck,
Peter

P.S. I can give you a reference for Canary butterflis:
- Báez M (1998) Mariposas de Canarias. - Editorial Rueda, Madrid.

Karin los insectos negros son siempre complicados, absorben la luz, es imprescindible el flash difusor en eso caso o pillarlos cuando esten iluminados por luz natural. Un saludo

Bonjour Karin

et la composition est très belle.

Hi!
Great shot! It almost seems like there is light coming through its wings! Well done to capture such an evasive creature :)
