[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a pair of juvenile Trumpeter Finches (Bucanetes gilthagineus).

When the male matures it has a bright red bill and grey upper parts. The rest of the body is tinged with pink. The name refers to the sound it makes which can be likened to a soft-sounding tinny trumpet. The female is duller in colour. They are gregarious and are usually seen in small flocks.

Unfortunately I couldn’t get close enough to a male to take a good shot, but these two were standing on a wall by a gravel park near the hotel one late afternoon. They had obviously strayed from their normal habitat.

They usually inhabit desert or semi-desert arid stony areas from the Canary Islands, across N. Africa to Asia.

The late afternoon light was sufficient to allow me to take the shot with the camera hand-held.
After fairly heavy cropping this image was sharpened and noise reduced with Neat Image.

Hi Ivan,
What a lovely pair of Finches you've captured great!!
Delicate details, perfect DOF and POV, Specially, I love these brownish colours of Birds and BG very much.
Very well done, Ivan.

Nice pair of these young birds, Ivan. The duo seem to be in a contemplative mood; maybe missing their natural habitat :-)!
You have used the light very effectively here.
Regards,
Ram

Hi Ivan,

Lovely photo. Difficult BG with colouring similar to the birds, but you handled it very well.

HI there Ivan, yes, they may be a bit soft, but the interest factor is good here. As you said, they were away from their normal habitat. and I am pleased to see 2 of them together... so hopefully they'll stay together. Well done on your capture, TFS
