| This disgusting tick, Ixodus ricinus in latin, sat on my dog's mouth. It was the biggest tick I have ever seen. Afterwards I found two other, smaller ones, between her eyes. The back of the tick (fästing in Swedish) is filled with blood from my dog. Some years ago these spider-animals were rare, but now they are spread by the deer. They can also cause a serious infection, borrelia. |

Oh yuck, Monica. I really feel for your dog... and you because you had to remove it. My dog gets lots of ticks, but I have never seen one this engorged. I'd say this is a 2 point photo strictly because of the gross factor. Hope your dog is Ok. :-)
Obviously I have mixed feeling about this picture :-)
But - we're here to learn and not just admire the beautiful things
TFS!
Yes, that is disgusting. I have removed hundreds of those when we had our dog. And I still don't like walking in the forest in shorts in the summer for fear of these, since they are also quite fond of humans. A good trick to put a measuring tape next to it. But why category Spiders?
