Captured from a car window with 5D @ 800mm, late afternoon, Öland.

The Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) is a member of the shrike family Laniidae. This bird breeds in most of Europe and western Asia and winters in tropical Africa.

This migratory medium-sized passerine eats large insects, small birds, voles and lizards. Like other shrikes it hunts from prominent perches, and impales corpses on thorns or barbed wire as a "larder". The general colour of the male’s upper parts is reddish. It has a grey head and a typical shrike black stripe through the eye. Underparts are tinged pink, and the tail has a black and white pattern similar to that of a wheatear. In the female and young birds the upperparts are brown and vermiculated. Underparts are buff and also vermiculated.

I really like this composition, Ralf.
The intersecting twigs form such a nice pattern.
And the shrike looking down from his perch is beautifully captured, with excellent details and exposure.

Hello Ralf!
Here are things which I like in this picture:

1. composition - even if rather typical for small birds photography, it is still very nice for looking

2. colours - delicate and warm, both in the BG and the main object

3. Dof - very good details

4. POV - almost face to face but almost profile too, very interesting :)

5. note - informative and detailed = has all thing thing which I always looking for :)

summarizing: another interesting presentation from your collection :) And I am waiting for the next one!
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hi Ralf

Yes cars make a good hide sometimes.
Stunning sharpness and plumage detail.
