[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The approach of winter also means fewer opportunities to photograph wildlife and many of us living in the cold North have to rely on our archives to post on TN.

Here is a reminder of Spring. Many fields in Scania have small ponds, relics of the times when fertile lime and mineral rich clays were dug out to enrich the soils of the surrounding fields. The ponds that formed as a result are often attractive to wild-life such as frogs, newts, dragonflies and other insects.

This pair of Shelducks (Tadorna tadorna)is prospecting for a place to nest, as these ponds are often used as feeding areas as there is plenty of insect life.

The Shelduck is fairly common along the coasts of many parts of Europe, but practically all the Swedish birds overwinter further south.

The male has the knob at the base of his bill and is a little larger and has brighter plumage.
They like to nest in holes which they can dig out themselves if there is a suitable bank. Sometimes they nest in holes of trees or under piles of boulders. This is why it is called 'Gravand' in Swedish, which means 'Digger Duck'.

Many fields these days are yellow with dandelion flowers, the dandelions being encouraged by the over-production of nitrates caused by agricultural fertilisers and car exhausts, rather like nettles.

This shot was taken at a distance of about 20 meters with my camera hand-held, which meant fairly heavy cropping. After size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

Hello Ivan,Wonderful capture.POV,colors,sharpness and composition are excellent.TFS.

Ivan;
Congrats on ID'ing Jose's insect! I agree with you about the approach of winter...it is not for the lack of pictures for me..it is because of the toll which cold hard winters take on my body. So into your archives and may they all be deep and full as this, of spring which we can appreciate through your eyes..

bonjour ivan
c'est une jolie espece,l'exposition est bien maitrisée mais je me demade s'il n'aurait pas mieux fallut augmenter la DOF et diminuer le vitesse car l'oiseau du second plan me semble un peu hors champ.
