Back in Sweden and to one of the Nature Reserves in the south of Sweden. As the storm was still raving here the other day we went to Forsakar, a ravine inland from here, to seek shelter! At the end of this long ravine is this 10 metre water fall! It’s a nesting place for the Dipper and we’ve seen them here many times but this time they were gone! However, we did enjoy the walk along the bottom of the ravine with up to 40 metres steep sides clad with beech. We’ll be returning here later in spring when the beeches are in bud and the birds are singing – then it’s a wonderful site. Perhaps we’ll also one day be lucky enough to find the rare Blue Ground Beetle (Carabus intricatus) that is a protected species in Sweden.

This was captured with the camera handheld and thanks to a glimpse of sunshine I had just enough light otherwise it’s very dark here. It has been reduced in size and sharpened.

hello ulla,
we are neighbours today, this is a nice scene presented aesthetically, liked the pov and the composition, hope that you will fine the birds singing for you when you come back here,
tfs & regards
pankaj

Oops sorry Ulla, I should have looked first before I posted, I didn’t mean to upstage your water fall, :) but you know what they say "size doesn’t matter" :o) I love the low POV excellent detail and d.o.f, really nice that you can get that close to the falls, something I wouldn’t attempt at Purlingbrook, nice touch of sunlight too, all the best Cheers Rick :)

HI Ulla, very nice pic and great atmosphere.i hear the water singin'...thanks for share,Luciano

A beautiful waterfall shot. Nice composition and well place in the frame.
Best wishes,
Achim

This could be a small ravine in a woods where I grew up. Exception being the falls. Most waters in my park were flat...also with exception on the very east side where there are some falls and limestone walls..
Taken in later winter yet it still appears as though it is fall..bare trees, leaves scattered and moss growing...there must certainly be a musty smell to this ravine area...and I'll venture to say there are more than a few insects crawling under the leaves and rocks. fine picture Ulla! Much enjoyed...almost as a memory.
Bob

Very nice winter landscape with quite a cold looking waterfall Ulla, the place where you live must be like heaven in the spring. But I wonder what the temp. was while you were shooting this scene!
Cordially yours,
Mehmet

Hi Ulla,
A beautiful scene. I like the color tone here. POV and composition also great. I can't help to mention that the Genre and Categories are not matched with the picture. TFS this impressive picture.

Hi Ulla,
Well composed and great POV of the falls. I think you did a great job with the available light here..And I'm looking forward to that shot in the Springtime :)
Howard

Nice shot of the falls, with just a hint of sunlight. This shot is well composed. Well Done.

This looks like a great place to go hiking. We have a waterfall near us, but it's right by the water treatment/sewage plant and smells...just...wonderful, if you know what I mean. Anyway - back to your shot: just gorgeous - perfect capture of the movement of the water, the ground, light coming through the trees and the general peacefulness of it all. I like it!! Penny

Hi Ulla,

A lovely waterfall. The water shows up so well against the dark surroundings. This must be beautiful in the springtime.

Jane

Hi Ulla,
What a wonderful waterfall and what a wonderful wooded area. This realy looks like the perfect habitat for the dipper.
The composition is very good, with the water nice leading the eye to the falls and beyond. The patch of light does add a good amount of contrast to the winter scenery. I am sure that spring would be a perfect moment to visit this location again. The soft light and fresh green colors are surely marvelous.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Ulla, I like that picture, the colours are wonderful and it almost seems like a secret place. The ground covered with leaves is almost uniform wouldn't it be for the moss now and then. It is a real nice place and thanks for showing it to us,

Hello Ulla

What a wonderful place,I would love to explore there too.
The falls are beautiful and you have captured them well .I like the way the water cascades and flows through the shot, and you are right, the eye is lead to the patch of sky.
Lovely rich,natural colours.

Hi Ulla,
this is a very pleasant looking place you have graced TN with, waterfalls are always a welcome sight.I have seen dippers and they sure are remarkable little birds as they fly right into the water and fly in it as well, that and walk under it.They are about the only birds I have seen do that.I was going to say something about the darkness of this photo but reading your note explains it well, however I thought I would try a workshop on this fine photo of yours to see how I could bring it more to life,I hope you do not mind. Thanks for this lovely view of this peaceful looking spot.
