Looks like it was perhaps a bit overcast? with the even lighting..

Hi Ivan,

You did a very good photo. This bird is not easy to photograph. Despite the fact I like going fishing I saw this bird only oance early in the morning in dim light.
Your photo has a very good light and you used it well geting a very nice, sharp clear image. Blurry background looks also very well.

The warm glow from the low sun is still there an hour later but it is diminishing slightly.
That said this is a perfectly taken picture..The sharp details of the snipe which are so well highlighted by the superb bg are just fantastic.

Excellent use of the depth of field Ivan. There is some story as to this bird which was a way of joking as a child....and now I have forgotten how it goes..something about a bag and a snip hunt...strange..perhaps I will look it up...now that you have reminded me..

Quite the bill on this bird...For good reason I know, but if such good reasons exist for one particular or this say as a piper...why then not all birds? Creation is a mystery of which we may never know fully. Very well photographed portrait Ivan.

7 am sounds better to me than 6am. It was difficult - but I was up at 5 yesterday for an early plane. This Snipe is just perfect - pose, colors, details, the sparkle in his eye. The background is beautiful.

you are very earlier. I remember another post of your from early morning time. This is really great capture for Gaillinago gallinago. Sharpness wonderful and POV/OOF. composition and plain colored BG excellent. Timing and eyes contact also great. Thanks for sharing also this information.
PS: I will be in Cyprus in this weekend and next week. I will try to visit TN and yours.

Hi Ivan,

It is amazing how different many waders look when they stand straight. I posted a picture 2-3 weeks ago where the bird's pose was very different. It really looks fat and short necked compared to this. Excellent capture, perfect in all possible ways.

You say this is a shy bird and you have got this one too quiet well even with cropping.
I like the PoV, the turn of the head and the completely muted green BG that sets off the subject very well.The rock and its colour compliments the plumage colours of the bird. the placement of the subject to the left adds to the beauty of the composition.

Very nice clear shot of this Snipe Ivan. Focus and exposure on this guy are excellent. You have him in a great pose on that rock, and he stands out very well against the green background provided through your depth of field.

Sorry for catching up late with your lovely picture, Ivan. The summer camp is in full swing in the school and I hardly find time to write my daily quota of critiques.
The Snipe looks charming in the mellow sunlight of the morning. The subject and foreground are well segregated from the OOF BG in this picture.

Hello Ivan,
I like this bird species and also your photo. I have seen the snipe several times but always only when startled and flying away. Thus I know it's not easy to spot. You got a very nice image with nicely shallow DOF, yet suggesting what kind of habitat it leaves in. Nice gentle colours too.
