[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Back after an unsuccessful birding tour Sunday morning (due a steady downpour) I found this insect sitting on the inside of our kitchen window. It belongs to “Ichneumonoidea” a huge group (over 100,000 estimated species worldwide) of primarily parasitoid insects often used for biological control in greenhouses. It´s rather close related to bees and wasps.

Aha, a possibility to use my new equipment, the 25 mm extension tube. I took a lot of pictures trying to find differens backgounds. I tried with the green lawn, the darker hedge, fhe fence and a mix of them. The result you find on the uploaded picture.

Makro is fascinating. Working on your computer you discover both strange and “impossible” things. You can see the hooks on the feet and I suppose they use it in some way, but how? Imagine yourself to jumping up toward a window trying to find unevenesses enough to sit on the vertical glossy surface, not falling down!

To try to get as good sharpness as possible I used the IS function of the lens and used 1/40 s and I think it worked.

Hej Hasse,
Excellent macro of this Ichneumon Fly that makes good use of the limited ambient light available to give the max DOF with good sharpness where focused.
I think this species is a parasitoid on lepidoptera caterpillars and may be Ophion luteus, but there are several similar-looking species.
TFS this beauty,
Hälsningar,
Ivan

Hello Hans,

Your photo has an interesting lighting solution. I like the way wings structure can be seen. Colors are also very nice and the background match well with insect's body colors.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hej Hans,
This insect looks really great on your window! Amazing how it can cling to it! Very fine sharp details especially of the legs and wings. I llike the soft green background too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla
