[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Large Marsh Grasshopper (Mecosthetus grossus)inhabits damp places, such as wet meadows marshes and water margins and as such habitats are widespread in Sweden, it is found practically all over my country up to Lapland.
The male, like the one shown, emerges first in July. It is smaller than the female and has a shorter abdomen in relation to the wings which project beyond. The female is larger and bulkier and her abdomen projects beyond the wings. She emerges a week or so later and females can be found into the autumn.
They communicate with one another by means of short dry chirps. The large female makes this species the largest grasshopper species in Sweden.

They are not easy to photograph and are easily scared into flying a distance of some meters if not carefully approached.

However the use of a telephoto lens reduces this problem but implies a steady hand and as ever the problem of deciding shutter speed against aperture. In this case it might have been better to use f11 and 250 th of a second, but having said that...well you can decide!

Hi Ivan
IMO, the diference between the settings that you used and the ones you said you should have used is very little. I think all of us thing they should have modified something to the setting of their camera after seeing the picture on the PC :)
The result is very nice this way, too...honestly!
The details are razor sharp, the colors are very beautiful and the lighting excellent. This apperture gave you a very lovely blurry BG and i say that's great - even id with the other one it would have probably been similar.
Anyway, a very well framed and composed, picture!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

bonjour ivan

I'll be back

Gracias y saludos... Ricardo

A macro sharp, colorful and with good illumination, with appropriate DOF that generates a very diffuse bottom.
The framing is something centered and vertical, personally I has attempted a slight rotation to break that symmetry... but it is only a point of view.
A very pleasant presentation.
I added this image to my Theme of Grasshopper.
Thank you and greetings... Ricardo

Hello Ivan,
this is a very nice species, but you also managed to get this one very well on the picture. The Marsh Grasshopper expands now a lot in my region, and therefor the change for me to get a picture of one increases. But as I see this nice and sharp image I have to put a lot of effort in to get it better than you did, if I ever get the chance....:-)

Hello Ivan,
really beautiful, brilliant and sharp picture of the grasshopper with nice natural colours.
... I decided, it is a superb picture (despite f8).
In some cases - if possible - I take 20 to 30 pictures of the same object using different parameter settings. But I think, this was not possible here - many animals do not allow it!
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Ivan,
The light is a bit harsh, but it certainly brought out the amazing details and beautiful colors on this grasshopper. Excellent POV. You even have eye contact.

Hi Ivan,
a wonderful picture with nice colours and very good details.
The shallow DOD is also very good, the entire hopper within focus and the BG nicely blurred.
Very well done.
