Intro:
These last weeks here in Sweden have been very grey and dull and we have missed the snow a lot. As soon as we get snow everything gets silent and much brighter at once.
However yesterday was a sunny day and we went to the east coast trying to spot some Bearded Tit (Panurus biarmicus/skäggmes). We were very lucky and soon heard the very typical "ping" sound. After a while we spotted 7 of them feeding. This is a beautiful female feeding.

I would also like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope that the year 2008 will be a great year for you all and for TrekNature!

I also wish for myself to be able to spend a bit more time here on TN as I enjoy it so much.

Geographic info:
This is from Uknö glo to the north of the small coastal town Västervik on the east coast of sweden.

Technical information:
Canon 300/f4 lens + 1,4 extender on a Canon 40D body, in rawformat. I used Adobe Lightroom for some adjustments before the edit in Photoshop CS3.

Just crop, white balance and a bit hue.

About the specie:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

The Bearded Reedling, Panurus biarmicus, is a unique small passerine bird. It is also frequently known as the Bearded Tit due to some similarities to Long-tailed Tits, or Bearded Parrotbill since it was later placed with these after it was removed from the true tits in the family Paridae.

Although the parrotbills and their relatives, the Old World babblers are otherwise confined to warm climates, the Bearded Tit is a species of temperate Europe and Asia. It is resident, and most birds do not migrate other than eruptive or cold weather movements. It is vulnerable to hard winters, which may kill many birds.

This species is a wetland specialist, breeding colonially in large reedbeds by lakes or swamps. It eats reed aphids in summer, and reed seeds in winter, its digestive system actually changing to cope with the very different seasonal diets.

This is a small orange-brown bird with a long tail and an undulating flight. The male has a grey head and black moustaches (not a beard). Flocks often betray their presence in a reedbed by their characteristic "ping" call.
