Today's post is Great Spotted Woodpecker.
I took this in the morning.
It was a very nice day, -15C, clear sky and sunny.
The Great Spotted Woodpecker is very common woodpecker up here and stay the winter.
He is eating snow, it's problem to find water in the winter.
I think I was more cold than the pecker;-)

Hi Gert, terrific to cath, you made a nice composition, the snow and the clear blue sky make it very fresh.
And with the sigma,....
Salut Reina

Hello Gert,
It's a very nice picture with great details and colours. I think the POV doesn't work very well, but as far as I know it's really hard to take a picture of this bird with other angle. I see them almost always somewhere in the tops of the trees.
Anyway, I like it very much.
WELL DONE!

Nice one Gert.
the pov is great, the colours are 100% with the sharpnes, with the composition you must have some luck too, but even fantastic job my friend. A very good 2006 for you and your family.

At -15C, i find it outstanding that you are making pictures at that temperature, but you are a bit common to it i think. Therefor i find it a very good picture of this woodpecker, well sharpness and colors. Well done and thanks

Hi Gert

I am pleaseed to hear that your health is on the improve. It is called Bells Palsy in New Zealand and I know of two close friends that have been aflicted with it and have fully recovered. This is a very nice shot of 'Woody'. Love the red plumage under him bum.......

Hi Gert,
wow, what a perfect bird, together with the snow and this blue sky - it's beautiful.
We also have such a woodpacker in the forrest near my house, but I've never had the chance to make a shot - and than I wouldn't have such good light there. Excellent, thanks

Gert, a beauty.

Beautiful blue sky and great looking bird.

Excellent composition, pov and catchlight.

Congratulations.

Hi Gert,

Very nice shot ! How close are you ? In Belgium I can't approach Woodpecker less than 100m.

Are you happy with the 100-300 ?

Regards
Pedro

Hello Gert.
Welcome back. Hope you're ok now.
To the picture: As always it's sharp as a raserblade. Incredible.

Hi Gert,
Good detail and colours. Great POV and sharpness.
Nicely composed and good exposure.
Thanks for posting.
Have a good week. I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year.

Hi Gert,
Very nice picture of this Woodpecker. An absolute beautiful composition and very fresh colours.
Sharpness is OK. You succeeded in getting the right structure in the snow. Often in this kind of pictures the snow is over exposed. Compliments! TFS and regards, Ruud

Hej gert,
Brilliant photo, very well composed. great POV, very sharpe and very good subject matter. Great work,
John

Excellent work my friend. Well composed and I like the melting snow on the tree bark, split diagonally with blue sky..Your subject is very sharp and well exposed with excellent colors also. Very well done.
Thank you!

Very nice capture Gert, the details are very sharp with nice warm lighting, even for that cold day. I hope that you are doing better. :)

Hi Gert,
The quality of light here is beautiful. The colors are well saturated and look amazing. Very sharp detail, with great control of the DOF. The composition and framing are flawless. The fact that you are out at -15c is worth 10 points in my book. Great job as always my friend!
