I was down to our small river today to see if any ducks has arrived, the use to come in big numbers in the autumn but it was only a few of them. Instead I found this Jackdaw who had found some leftovers for the ducks.
I use the build-in flash for a fill-in as I was quite dark.
It’s a very common bird, and it like to live in the cities. In the autumn they come together in large flocks with 100-500 birds. It is the smallest of our craw birds, about 35 cm. Some of the stay the winter and others moving south.
I think it’s a nice bird.

It is easily recognised at close range by an obvious grey shawl around the nape which makes the face and forehead look conspicuously black. In flight it is smaller with shorter, more rounded and quicker-paced wings than other crows, sometimes seeming almost pigeon-like.

Hi Gert.
New (but native brand) camera, superb lens and consummate mastery of Gert gifted to us next masterpiece. Bravo, my friend, amazing picture. All components of photo skill is outstanding. Pictured scene is fine. Reproduction of the bird, trunk and even moss is terrific as well as the BG (bokeh) is tremendous. Composition and framing are stunning. Blameless picture. It is fantastic which became the realty. My congratulations.

Hej Gert,
I really love this shot!! You've managed to catch this common bird in such a fine pose on a beautiful mossy branch and against a very fine soft background. The details and colours of the plumage are really superb, only I think the blue eye is less blue due to the flash but that doesn't really matter.
We have them flying over our housse every night as they come in from the fields to roost in the crowns of the pine trees. I like their sound when they come! (Not everyone would!) Well done!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hello Gert,
Black and gray also being pretty. Excellent pose, sharpness, bg and composition.

Very good image, Gert!
I have a 'nit' though :-)
First the good news...
I do like and I do like it a lot the perching, the background, the bird and its pose and so forth,...
Now the nit: I should have cropped the little triangle under the tree in the left corner at the bottom even if you have the arguments not to do so; an example of such an argument is 'looking space'...
Quite personal though and nevertheless an amazing image!
Congrats
TFS

He's eating your lunch Gert! I haven't noticed the grey shawl before - stands oout quite well, now that I know to look at it.
Wonderfully captured. So sharp, and showing good clarity too.

Gert, What an eye contact. What is it holding on the beak? Seem to be some sort of bread?
Nice action. Ganesh

It may be common Gert but this is a very good shot. Pin sharp with absolutley stunning sharpness and feather detail. Great eye contact too.
Perfectly composed (except for the bread) and the fill flash worked well.
Nice work.

Chris

Very nice Gert, perfect exposure & colors as is always the case with your work.
Excellent composition, POV, DOF, BG, and sharp detail. I'm surprised this came out so very well at F/4 and 1/80th..
