Details to the max, my friend. what a shot. I like the wing details which shows how delicate they are. Almost plastic. Then there's the head forward and seeing inside. Amazing.

The effect with the light bouncing off the wings is marvellous (reminiscent of stained-glass windows), DOF is used very effectively, brilliantly sharp and nice colours, very well done!
Composition-wise, the feathery bits of fern that are also within DOF are a bit distracting, but obviously that can be controlled only to a very limited amount!
The head tilted down and the inside showing - I've never seen that before (not looked closely enough I suppose) - is this normal?

Splendid image Gert. I like the composition, not shy to crop down to the best parts. The angle helps in capturing the colour of the leaves coming through the wings, it is effective and unusual. I look forward to checking out more of your work. Cheers Rob

This is sensational and I can only dream about macro-close-ups like this. Sharp details and great colors. Too bad the front left wing is oof. Composition is nice. Well done & TFS!

Hi Gert, lovely shot. A tough one to ID as it is a teneral. It's not a Ruddy Darter though. My best guess would be be a Vagrant Darter Sympetrum vulgatum...I'm not 100% on this.

Nice shot good compositon and excellent details, well done.

Is it just me or is the body out of focus? It looks as though the focus-point is on the right wing.
Still a million times better than any close-up I've ever done, though, excellent work.

Excellent capture Gert and somehow very interesting with the "double effect" from the dof (in the right side the wing in front is sharp and within focus and in the left side the wing is too close to be in focus but the effect is interesting - IMO. Anyway the main focus is exactly where it should be. the colours are very good and I really like the tight cropping - makes a great composition.

I agree with Paul - it is not a Ruddy Darter because the have totally black legs and this one has clear yellow bands. I think it is a very young one because of the wings without damages at all.

Amazingly crisp and clean shot, Gert. Reflections make the wings look like glass. I must remember your patience the next time I am out shooting.
