[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today’s post is a damselfly again and a I think it’s a Emerald damselfly again.:-)
The damselflies were very shy today but this one was co-operative.
I used a mirror lock, tripod and cable release for this one. The ground was like a quagmire so the tripod was not steady; I set the camera and step back a meter, cross my fingers and used the cable release.
Even with F18 the DOF is shallow, the end of tail is not in focus. I hope you like him.

I have post a picture almost every day during the last year except from my “vacation” from TN.
The time is not on my side just now, so I have to slow down the posting and comments a bit.
I will posts, give comments and some advice but not every day.

Some info:
Widespread and common. Adults can be seen from mid June to late September. This can be a locally abundant species favouring acid ponds and small lakes, but avoiding very exposed and upland sites. It is the last species of damselfly to emerge each year in mid to late June.
The Emerald Damselfly is similar to the Scarce Emerald Damselfly Lestes dryas. Males of both species are emerald green and as they mature develop a powdery blue pruinescence on the thorax, abdominal segments 1 and 2 and on the apex of the abdomen. The pruinescence can sometimes obscure the spots on segment 2 which are teardrop-shaped in the Emerald Damselfly and rectangular in the Scarce Emerald. The inferior anal appendages are straight in the Emerald and broad and curved inwards in the Scarce Emerald.

Technique:
Sigma 180 Macro EX HSM. Manual exposure, manual focius, Tripod, Sigma 500 EF for fill-in
ISO 200, Raw-format,
Convert, Levels, Contrast, Crop, resized to 800 pixels , USM on the B/W channel in lab-colours. I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 for PP and

I absolutely love the eyes! The sharpness is very good and so is the composition.

I amazed at the rate that you have been posting and commenting over the last year. A lot of have people (including me) have learnt so much from your advice and by looking at your images and I think you deserve to slow down, but will not be allowed to go away :)

Best regards

Japie

OK, DOF is not perfect, but it still is very good indeed, so don't talk it down! Crisp details, good composition. BG nicely blurred with the still recognisable lines adding to the focus on the damselfly's body + eyes. Yelloworange spot top right slightly distracting. I like the copper-tinge light on the black body parts, they add some depth, and contrast nicely with the mostly green BG.
Cheers,
Gabi
P.S. Congratulations on your efforts in the past year, I well understand this website is addictive!

Hello Gert, great shot, especially on reading the note. It's a shame the tip of the sbdomen is slipping out of focus but I don't mind that too much. The details on the head and wings are excellent and it's a very good exposure.

Well done.
