Brimstone butterfly Male, Swe Citronfjäril.
At last I have found some butterflies. Today I saw 6 Brimstone Butterfly.
This is a very common butterfly in Sweden and one of the earliest in spring,
It’s wintering as an adult.

From www.butterfly-conservation.org
/
The sulphur-yellow uppersides of the wings of the male Brimstone make this species easy to identify in flight. There is a view that the word 'butterfly' originates from the yellow colour of male Brimstones. By contrast, the wings of the female are very pale green, almost white. When the butterflies roost among foliage, the angular shape and the strong veining of their wings closely resemble leaves.
Widespread through Europe as far as 64ºN in Scandinavia, extending to Mongolia and North Africa. The European range is stable.
The Brimstone occurs in scrubby grassland, woodland (especially damp carr woodland), hedgerows, and open ground wherever foodplants are available in sunny positions. The butterfly ranges widely and can often be seen flying along roadside verges and tracks with hedgerows, well away from foodplants

Hello Gert!
Very nice capture.Using of back light.Details, colors,POV,sharpness and composition are excellent.TFS...:-)

Hi Gert, this is a beautiful capture, no nits at all, wish I had one this good :)

Very good diagonally oriented composition, like the colours, excellent detail and DOF (BG nicely blurred). Direction of light lights the tips of wings and antennae, would have been nicer if placed so as to emphasize whole head and esp. the eyes(head and wing a tad dark, flower is in the shadow). Admittedly it is a bit difficult to move the sun though ... ;-)
Cheers,
Gabi

Gert, another stunning one as always. I love the detail on the wings and how your note illustrates what the picture shows. Very good composition and sharpness, TFS!

At least, I know what you mean by that Gert. There are not so much butterflies this year I heard on the radio that this is the result of the last 2 hot summers in the Netherlands last 2 years. The butterflies are very late here in the low lands. Your citron butterfly is a nice one, the composition is well taken, the pov is just perfect even as the dof and the great dof. Very good job my friend,
gr. jaap

Superb shot Gert!
There plenty of them in my garden. In Poland they are calle Cytrynek (Mr Lemon) ;)
Colours are great, details and exposure perfect. I would maybe cut it a bit more from below.
Overall, excellent shot.
WELL DONE!

An outstanding image Gert. Perfectly captured.
The translucent (sp?) wings are incredible.
Great comp pov and dof.

*POV:5, excellent, lens was on the same level as the butterfly.

*DOF:5, f14 really makes a difference.

*Composition:5, for me the compo is perfect, a little bit of the flower, enough space around the butterfly but not too much. Perfect.

*Details:4, excellent but there seems too be some noise in the BG??

*Exposure:5, perfect, f14 and 1/100s ... you needed that tripod. :)

*Colors:5, nice and saturated. The colors in the bg are stunning and I like them a lot.

*Note:4, always good enough from your hand.

Scale 1-5, 5 is the best.

Hello Gert,

I like this picture a lot and let me tell you why. The composition is just perfect. The details on the butterfly are very sharp and I like the way her wings look like a leaf. Beautiful. I have two tiny nits. On my monitor the BG is a wee bit grainy. Is that really the case or should I return my monitor? ;) I think your border is too thin and I don't write that because you think the black frame on my duck is too thick. :) I really think it's too thin. I assume you didn't want to sacrifice more space because the subject would become smaller that way, but I think you have to choose. Or you don't use a border at all or you use a substantial border. My 2 cents of course. :)

Always in a friendly way,
Pieter
