Today's post is beautiful dragonfly
I’m not sure, but I think this is a Black Darter, Sympetrum danae a male.
It’s very common where I live.

Common name: Black Darter
Preferred environment: oligotrophic pools and small lakes on bogs and heaths
Flight period: end of June until October. In Ireland July to mid October
Adult habitat and habits: males are non-territorial and pairing and copulation takes place away from breeding site. Pairs arrive in tandem at breeding site.
Oviposition site and behaviour: oviposits in tandem or female alone. Females dips abdomen into wet peat/soil or mosses.
Larval habitat and habits: eggs diapause until spring and complete lifecycle in one season, Larvae live amongst Sphagnum mosses.
Range: central and northern Europe, northern Asia to Japan and North America. Occurs as far south as the French Pyrenees and north to the Arctic Circle in northern Scandinavia. In Ireland widespread in north and west. Very local south of a line from Galway to Dublin.

Technique:
Sigma 180 mm macro HSM EX, Kenko 300 PRO DG converter 1.4 X
ISO 100 Raw-format, manualfocus, manual exposure.
Converted ,contrast and levels ,crop, resized to 800 pixels, USM on B7W channel 0,3 pixel, 300% amount.
I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 for PP.

I never saeen this one before in the low lands,
the composition is very nice taken, the pov is great, even as the dof. Can you tell me what kind of flash you used here? a ringflash mayby, very good job Gert,

An innocent question, the light and Fstop seemed alright, was it a good time for a flash? Was it dark in areas for the need of flash.?

Hi Gert, lovely image and great note. The BG is a little messy but sometimes (as I know very well) that cannot be helped. Don't get me wrong, this is a stunning image (it is very clear and detailed, well composed and the light is lovely) but I just felt like doing a workshop. I hope you like it.

Great lighting, pov and sharpness.

I also colors and composition. Excellent colors and contrast.

Good diagonal composition. Great details as usual.

The compo does complement the DOF here Gert. Subject is perfectly placed. The details sharp and the blacks nicely exposed.
