Today’s post is a bit different from me and it’s taken in December 20 last year
It’s taken down by the Baltic Sea outside my town Gävle.
It was the shortest day and longest night (Midwinter day).
It’s taken 1130 and the sun is almost on the highest position, just over the tree tops.
You can see the long shadows, this is light I have to fight with in the winter.
The daylight is a 5-6 hours. The tripod is my best friend those days.
The best with this day is that the days will longer until Midsummer Day.
And in the north part of Sweden the sun will not come over the horizon but
Instead the sun will never go down under the horizon in the summer.

This was a very cold day about 15C / 5 F and the Baltic Sea was still open,
But the stones and straws are cover with ice from the waves.

Technique:
Sigma 100-300 /4.0 EX HSM,
ISO 400, Raw-format, One-shot auto focus. Av-mode
Convert, Levels, Contrast, Crop, resized to 800 pixels, USM on the B/W channel in lab-colours. I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 for PP

:o) wau b´beautiful shot
I like great light and composition.
But this winter shot has warm colors.
It's small problem for my eye.
But the shot is great!
regards and TFS Libor

Hi Gert,
Looks like you can adapt and still take wonderful shots. I love the composition here. The lighting appears to be an early morning light even though it is 11:30. I know winter is a strange time in your part of the world. This just makes me shiver

Hello Gert,

It appears that the battle was fierce, and yet you won!

Superb effects with this lighting, excellent details, colors, POV and chill factor.. :-))

Great job, I really love these kinds of photos.

Thank you.

ps. if you could see and hear the wind roaring outside my window, you would realize how well timed this photo is for some of us Canadians!

Gert, I like the idea.

It's indeed unusual, mainly if we consider the photos you generally post. But the great we are accustomed to is there.

Hi Gert,

Excellent shot and beautiful golden lighting. Excellent composition.
We have snow and it's cold out -13brrr

Mike

Hello Gert!
It's just great composition. Look very arty - stones with frozem water.

Hi Gert:
It´s an interesting shot, no doubt.
Great compo and DOF.

Hugs
Alejandro

Hi Gert,
there's a peaceful atmosphere in your wonderful shot. Very cold but with pretty warm sun. The light remembers me to a late afternoon-light, the days here are also short, but not so short than yours. We have light in December from 7,30 until 16. But Midsummer must be wonderful. My parents have booked a tour for June these days - Finland, Nordkap, Sweden, Denmark, a few days on the Postship, I guess this will be wonderful, you are living in a wonderful country, bye Gert

Lovely shot Gert, great natural colours and light, good note too!
Thanks for sharing.
Michael.

Excellent shot Gert, stunning details, excellent sharpness and colours/lighting. Great POV, DOF and composition.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Gert,
Excellent capture, good sharp detail and colours. Great DOF and POV.
Nicely composed and good exposure.
Thanks for posting.

Yes, this is what we have to look forward too in the next two or three months. Great capture Gert. Very nice details in the ice and straws. The handling of light is great making it look a little warm in the colours. Oh, I am really looking forward to get out in weather like this.

we can feel the cold. Good compo and dof on harsh conditions.

I'm getting cold!
Great use of the lighting and superb "cold" colours. The foreground is a bit too dark to my liking in comparison to the rest of the image, but a very nice image it is!

The quality of the picture is incredible and the composition is interesting.

Cool shot Gert, they look like sugar coated glazed rocks. Very nice exposure. :)

Hello Gert, Interesting notes on the conditions you must deal with during your very short daylight hours of winter..The shot shows very well the low angle of light there in Sweden. Excellent shot!
Thank You my friend.

Personal assessment of the photo: excellent.
Capacity of evocation in me: very strong.
Strong visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent.
Personal assessment of the note: complete and very interesting.
Thank you very much Gert, friend even in the darkness and in the cold.

Fantastic shot! The best part being the icecovered stalks.
I like the way you captured the sunlight on the ice.

Well done! No nits ;) Tfs, J.

PS You want to make that temp. -15C / 5F which was the windchill temp here today... Tomorrow will be colder.
