[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Callie. This is my contribution to "near misses"
You know I love to take fligh-in pictures and this is what happends 9 times of 10.
I tried to panning swans with the big 100-400/4 and 1,4x converter. Cut the bill and the wings and bad exposure.
This is not crop just resized to 800 pixels, some levles and usm.
ISO 200 , JPG-format.
This is one reason why I shot Raw instead of JPG, I can fix the exposure afterwards in PP.
About the cut there are nothing to do,
except try again.

Hi Gert
Thanks
This is great, it shows how 90% of our pictures look, and also gives an idication of how difficult it is to nail anthing on the wing. If you look at the exposure on that underwing, it is spot-on, and the profile too/
TFS Gert, I hope the other will join to.

One can almost reach out and touch the belly. Excelent post showing the daily life of a photographer.

I love it, Gert! It's so true that I have to laugh about it. Flying swans are on my wishing list since my first posts on TE (in january 2003!). I should record their noisy wings humming instead of trying to capture a motion shot of these giants:-). But... wait, a new camera is planned! I like the way it looks at you as if it was going to stick two fingers up :-) Thanks for posting, it's still a very optimistic shot!

A perfect missed one like I would like to take. On my wishing list. And I am serious, you know, Gert.
I do not understand your preference for Raw instead of JPG. I can fix the exposure too with JPG.
I like very much this idea of "near misses".
Thanks and good luck for the next attempts.

Another great "near-miss" Gert! I wish I'd checked the site before posting tonight or I would've contributed. And about the cut..just try, try again! ;-)

Too fast for 10D :-) ? Looks like most of my pictures of birds. Add blurring and you've got the picture :-) Great near-miss Gert.

Very good near miss Gert. I thought I was the only guy who could mess up shots with a camera. Gladly, and thanks to Callie's bravery, another side of the picture is emerging and I don't feel so alone anymore. Good post

Not a lot missing to get it right, anyway details are interesting.
Good near-miss Gert.

A real Classic for the "Just Missed" image cat Gert, a real lesson in not attempting to fill the frame too much.

So there are times that you wish the subject were further :)

Thanks for posting this near miss, I'm starting to feel better about myself
