Green hairstreak, Callophrys rubi , Swe Bjönbärssnabbvinge.
Lingonberry, Vaccinium vitis-idaea, Swe Lingon

It’s a very common butterfly. It’s a very small butterfly so most people never take notice of it. Here it’s sitting on a lingonberry flower. The lingon grows very low on ground and has beautiful small flowers. it's alot of grass straws, but it's thw way the grow.

In Sep when the berries are ready the woods are full of Swedes to pick them.
Lingon is our national berry. We eat lingon jam to everything, meat, meatballs, pancakes, you name it. Almost all Swedes love them but I don’t. But I have to follow the Mrs to pick lingon every autumn ;-((

Some info about the Green Hairstreak
This is one of just 2 European butterflies with a green ground colour. The other species is the Chapman's Green Hairstreak, Callophrys avis. It is extremely similar in almost all respects except the white line is usually heavy and nearly continuous on the hindwing and extends well onto the forewing. Some rubi are like this too so beware! The irrefutable evidence is the colour of the marks around the eyes. In all the photos above the eyes are circled white. In avis this white is replaced by a dull red - the difference is clear if you can get close enough to one of these energetic butterflies to take a look. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of avis to show this difference.
This species is widespread and often common in the spring. Worn specimens can be found into summer but generally it is usually over by the end of June.

Some info about Lingon.
Lingon, Vaccinium vitis-idaea
Leaf: Alternate, simple, persistent, egg-shaped, 1/2 to 1 inch long, thick, margins slightly revolute, shiny green above, light green beneath and spotted with short stiff brown hairs.
Flower: Monoecious; perfect, one to several small, nodding, pink flowers that grow on short stalks at the ends of twigs. Corolla is pink and bell shaped about 1/4 inch long with 4 short lobes, appearing in early summer.
Fruit: Bright red berries, 1/4 to 1/3 inch in diameter, edible when ripe in late summer.
Twig: Slender and trailing, light brown to yellow in colour, root at nodes.
Bark: Plants hug the ground so bark is hard to see, branches are minutely pubescent, later splotchy brown.
Form: Mat-forming, evergreen, creeping shrub, usually under 3 inches tall. Its slender stems root adventitiously helping to create this form.

Hard to see for first look - well camouflaged with surrounded leaves. I like shinning surfaces of insect's wings.

Hello Gert,

Excellent shot! The green color of the wings is superb. Very sharp focus and great POV. The grass in front of the butterfly doesn't bother me at all. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter
