Hello, Gert. You are the only person I know who can make flies look pretty. : P
Another stunning shot taken with perfect technical skills.
So is that what you have to do to take a good macro with the S1-IS? I have not been able to get any good macros with it.
I will go and experiment. Thanks for the tip. : )

Very good, clear macro, with plenty of DOF. The fly shows up very clearly against the background, making for quite a dramatic shot.

... You are even able to shoot fantastic macros without the 180mm lens! Excellent! Only one little nit: the flower is oe. Composition is great & details are razorsharp. Impressive Gert, this is impressive. Well done & TFS!
Regards,
Pieter
Hello Gert, Well composed shot with good detail, colors and sharpness. Some lack of detail due to neat image? Anyway, Great post with the S1, Well done!

Hi Gert, nice shot for the camera you used. With my 50 mm I have a very small minimum focussing distance, about the same as my old Olympus. I kind of like getting in close sometimes. I would love to have a bigger macro but funds don't allow. I think the ID is right too. Well done.

Gert, the subject and composition of this one are amazing, it is a impressing hoverfly.
This is a very useful post for me, as I am inquiring sigma users (Paul and Pieter for the moment) to decide miself in one of the 3 sigma sizes, Pauls 50, Pieters 105 or yours 180.
Do you "miss" using your 180 the capability of getting closer to your subjects. You must have a very steady hand at low speeds, as you minimun distance is around 42 Cm. (correct me if I am wrong) Thanks in advance, Felipe.

Absolutely superb shot, Gert. Focus on head and wings could not be better. I wonder whether the spots on the eyes are pollen or some sort of parasite.

Simple subject but great picture!
You know, it's an art to make great picture out of a simple subject. Large magnification with a S1-IS (did you use close-up?). Fly and flower are beautiful. The green blured BG is as perfect as exposure. The diagonal position is interesting. Best of all the nice glare and details you got in the wings.
Great macro and TFS
