Today’s birds is one of my fav’s, the Dipper. It use to visit our small river Gavleån every winter and stay about 5-6 months, but this winter it has only been here seldom, because of the much water in the river and the strong stream, it has problem to dive and get food in the bottom of the river. We have been looking for him both I and Micke but he is always gone when we are down by the river.
This picture is quite rare, because he is sitting in the sunny side of the river, he use sit in the dark parts on the other side. I have only two or three picture of him in the sun.
People think he is only black but he has a very nice plumage both in colours and pattern.
The white breast helps him to reflect the light when he is seeking food on the bottom.
He is also very brave, diving and swimming even if it -20 C, This picture is taken last winter.
I hope you like him.

Hi Gert,
I have seen this bird once when I was in Austria, but I did not got the chance to get so close. I think it is a very nice bird and you captured him well. Good sharpness and details and a very nice composition.
TFS Paula

Hi Ellis,
Just great!
I like so much the scene captured here.
A very uncomon background for a little bird.
It's very good the movement of the image, due to the flow of the water.
And just the little buddie standing on a corner like posing to you.
Made an excellent composition, I like also the DOF ussed here.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Gert,

What I like in this composition is the river BG. Seeing a bird in this surrounding is different that the traditional bird in a tree. The water gives nice 'movement' to the picture. The splash of the droplets are well captured. Good exposure and POV. I have the impression that you cropped a lot because of a bit of noise and less details as usual.

PC :)

Hi Gert.
Beautiful composition and colours you have here. Usual great details and precise exposure.
The BG makes it this time, it couldn´t be..... more wet :)
Thanks for posting, have a nice sunday.

Absolutely Wonderful.

The position of the wee bird, the clarity and detail, the flow and bubbles of the water - simply a top quality image, expertly done. Breathtaking.

Hi Gert,
I love this picture for the following reasons:
The movement of water and the crisp and sharp bird a combination which is hard to shoot.
The details on the wings
The catch light
And last but not the least , the composition

Hej Ellis,
This is just how you see him - camouflaged against the stones and surrounded by rushing water! Excellent capture, sharp details and I really like the feel of movement. The light is terrific and colours really nice. Well done!

Hello Gert,
Dippers are one of my favorites too, but ours are so plain compared to yours. This capture has sharp detail and lovely colors, thanks for showing us your dipper.

Very interesting little bird, Gert.
I remember you showing him to us in years past.
It is amazing indeed to see such a small bird by such a strong torrent.
A very pretty bird that you have captured with sharp details and good exposure. What luck that it was in the sun. : )
TFS. : )

The bird in perfect harmony with nature; that's the first thought that came to my mind while looking at this picture of a Dipper -- a bird unknown to me.
The bird has a lovely plumage. The patch of white on the breast matches with the general brown colour.
At 320, the flow of water looks quite natural and serves as authentic BG.
Great image.
TFS.

Hi Gert.
Your picture looks like painted by oil. Great rich colours and exactness of strokes of the paint-brush of Great Writer. The reproduction of the water stream (stream of life) is excellent as ell as the bright lights, rich colours and perfect details. Very impressive art work. Bravo and best wishes.
Alexei.

Hej Gert
Beautiful shot of this Dipper. Details and colours are amazing in combination with BG.

Hi Gert,
this is a very nice image. I can only dream of taking a picture like this. The dipper in it's natural environment. It's the red bellied, there's also a black bellied around in Europe.
But you're also dealing with a situation I sometime have. I assume it is a rather strong crop. You get to see the artefacts of compression. What to do....? I mostly choose less cropping and showing more of the surrounding, but this side effect is you getr to see less of the bird. In this case I don't mind at all your choice. All is well visible and I think it's a beautiful picture.
Regards, Jacob

Hi Gert,
I absolutely love this bird.
The presentation here is exquisite and typical.
The details are really good and the colors nice and natural.
Great one!

Hi Gert,
This is really a superb shot on the Dippe. I rmber some of your other shots on them and your notes explaining how difficut they are to catch in good light. Overall composition and framing look great. Colors and detail in the plumage look superb. Great catch here.

Hi Gert!

Very refreshing image :-) I like main subject, it looks very cute, but also place is very nice. Especially water flowing over stones. Nice composition and colours. Are you serious? This bird swims even in -20C temperature? There is only one explanation - it must be Swede :-)))

Hola Gert,

Ricardo

Handsome capture Gert with great aesthetic sense and beautiful composition.
A presentation of quality with a slight definition loss, but I believe that it originates in the post processed and not in the original image.
My best regards... Ricardo

Hello Gert,

I like very much the environment where you took that nice picture! At 1/320s, we can feel the speed of the water flow! The nice is very cute and very brave as you mentionned... The only thing is that it seems to be a problem with the compression when you look carefully at the pixels...

Nice pic and TFS,

Michel

This is an amazing picture Gert! Those tones of colors are very nice and the fact that the bird seems to be so still on this rock with the movement of the water all around makes it a unique picture. This is nice specie that I didn't know about. Well done! Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Gert,
this shot is excellent. The exposure is great, a wonderful softness to the texture of the water, yet your bird is nice and sharp.
Lovely composition, POV, colors and placing of your subject is great.

What a beautifull shot the sharpness and colours are amazing I think composition is excellent and the waterflow on its own is enough the well posed bird is a bonus. Very well seen and captured congrats rgds Necip

Hello gert,
yes that's exactly it: everything around the Dipper is in movement, but the bird takes a stoic stance. You captured that wonderfully.

Olá Gert

Uma excelente foto deste pequeno pássaro, numa composição linda em meio as pedras e a água que desliza num movimento belo e atraente.
Boas cores, parabéns!

Abraços,

Hi Gert

Lovely shot of the Dipper. I like the water flow. A lovely environment. Nice work MF. Thank you!

bonjour elis
un joli petit oiseau, mais ce que j'aime aussi sur cette photo c'est que bien que vous ayez utilisé une vitesse mormalement rapide cela donne un peu de flou sur la surface de l'eau alors que l'oiseau est parfaitement net.
bien vu.

Hi Gert

I've missed this one when it was initially posted, but lucklt i saw it today and i stopped by to tell you that i like it :)
I like it simply because it presents this vute bird not on an electrical wire, or pole, not an a fence or a brance in a tree, but i a splendid natural environment and one that also brings a great viewing effect - a flowing stream.
The colors here are charming and well saturated and the details on the lovely dipper are great and sharp.
Superb composition.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Gert,
Dippers are among my favourite birds. I can watch their behavior nearly for hours. Their usually so busy in and around the streams.
Excellent focus and perfect exposition!
I admire and congratulate :-)
Best greetings,
Michal

Hello Gert,
You don't know how many times I have attempted to capture the Dipper here in the Columbia River Gorge streams.
An amazing capture with pure light, colors, and contrasts, and the most demanding of detail in the feathers.
This has to be the best image I have ever seen of the Dipper!
Great!!!
Steve
