Today’s post is a close-up of a Brimstone butterfly, I took it yesterday with my handy Canon 60mm macro-lens. It is normally to short for close-ups of butterflies, but in the late summer and autumn, the buterflies are not shy as they use to be. I found a lot of new fresh brimstones and Peacock butterflies yesterday, I hope to find a Red Admiral too.
I took this hand held with support by an elbow on the knee and I have to remove the lens hood, it was almost touching the butterfly.
The flower is a rubbeckia , Echinacea Purpurea and it’s very attractive to butteflies and other insects.
I hope you like him.

Some info.
The sulphur-yellow uppersides of the wings of the male Brimstone make this species easy to identify in flight. There is a view that the word 'butterfly' originates from the yellow colour of male Brimstones. By contrast, the wings of the female are very pale green, almost white. When the butterflies roost among foliage, the angular shape and the strong veining of their wings closely resemble leaves.
The Brimstone has spread in recent years, mainly in northern England.

Hi Gert

Again a great macro shot!
Very good details, excellent textures (i love the way the hair looks:)), lovely colors and framing. Also great POV, with a very good DOF (just an idea...maybe if it were just a very, very bit deeper, to get the secound antena into focus), perfect BG, all very well composed.
All-in-all a super shot!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hi Gert,
it was amazing to see all the exotic butterflies in the butterfly-house some weeks ago. But when I look at your brimstone or look at my own brimstone-shots of the last year I must say, that this green one is one of the beautiful butterflies I know. Look at these hairs and this rose antennas, it's wonderful.
Thanks for this impressive sharp close-up, I enjoyed looking so much.
Bye and greetings

Hi Gert.
This is amazing!! A real treat. Could I ask...Do you think shooting in RAW contributed in making this image as clear and detailed and beautiful? I am trying to learn about RAW.

Thanks and Congrats!

Saludos cordiales... Ricardo

I had disregarded this macro with so many details and clarity Gert.
The hairiness of the insect fundamentally is wonderful.
The very just focus has left the later antenna outside of focus, but non be unworthy of the quality of the presentation.
Excellent election of the cutting also.
Best regards... Ricardo

Excellent composition and DoF. I loved the boke and the sharpness. I also liked the square format. The colors have rendered wonderfully.

Tight crop makes this photograph less impressive. Sorry.
