Today’s post is a dragonfly. I have the same problem to ID dragonflies as hoverflies.
But I’m almost certain this is a Four-spotted Chaser; correct me if I’m wrong.
I visit the small ponds we have north of our park and I found a lot dragon- and damselflies.
I will return later this evening so see I can get some “tandems”.

This was a luck shot; I had my 180 macro lens and the converter on the camera.
I had to use manual focus and I was quick enough to get a decent shot. This is the full frame, just resize it.
I hope you like it.

Sigma 180 Macro EX HSM,
Kenko 1,4X converter, Sigma 500 EF Super DG,
ISO 200, Raw-format , manual exposure, manual focus.
Convert, Levels, Contrast, Crop, resized to 800 pixels , USM on the B/W channel in lab-colours.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 for PP

Wow!Superb capture!
Extremely clear,very sharp details.GREAT SHOT!
TFS!

Manual focus, to shot a dragonfly ?.... My God, I feel I have still a lot to learn about photography in nature...
Incredible shot, anyway. I sometimes was lucky in shooting dragonflies which had stopped on plants, but while flying !!!!...
I really admire your work, congratulations Gert.

Excellent Gert, such a great macro action shot. Amazing details, colours and sharpness. Well shown, thank you.

Hi Gert
That you got the wings frozen by only 1/200 is simply amazing and I will say great luck (I have some shots with blurred wings at 1/1000 which shows how fast they move). Clearness, sharpness, details and colours - everything here is excellent. Well done.

I would very much like to know shooting distance and how hard you have cropped the original as I am just about to buy an 90 mm Tamron but may be I should consider a 180 mm instead.

Very impressive shot. Congratulation

Hello Gert, fantastic shot! I love it. Beautiful frozen moment and the ID is correct. Very well done.

Great stroke of luck Gert! Excellent POV, composition, colors, sharpness and details..
My shot today was also with the help of a bit of luck. The hummer flew right down in front of me and was only 5-6 feet from my lens! Almost too close to focus as my inside on the Canon 400mm is 1.8 meters..
Very well done my friend!

Hi Gert, this is an excellent shot and full frame too - wonderful composition :) and you froze the motion really well at only 1/200! It's lovely and sharp with great colours and OOF BG, a really great shot. TFS :)

You've really got it right, Gert. It could not be better. As you write, it was a luck shot. These don't happen very often. It's a masterpiece. Keep it in a safe place! Hat's off, my friend!

Hello Gert. This is an outstanding shot. I don't think I have ever seen a photo of a dragonfly in flight. You can actually see all four wings. Just amazing. Congratulations.

Wonderful shot with perfect details, lighting amd composition.I liked this work very much.

Au vol super ! La netteté et les couleurs sont parfaites. Le Bg etl'exposition sont excellents.

Félicitations !

Incredible capture!!!! Fantastic work.
You might want to check the shutter settings again, I am quite certain the speed is greater than just 1/200 to catch that wing. Well done indeed!

Far out Gert, that's one impressive shot. i know how hard it would be to take this and I think you've done a great job. The focus and freeze are perfect. I love the motion of the wing and the legs tucked up under the belly. You've even managed a perect composition. Well done.

Great shot Gert!
I can't imagine how it is possible to capture dfly in flight - there fly so quick that this is even hard to see them well.
This is superb.
I like it very much.

Hi Gert, This is unimaginable for a beginner like me. Take a picture of a flying dragonfly !!! :-o
Amazing !!!

hello Gert,
this surely must be one of the most amazing shots. I have enough trouble following those swift flyers with my eyes- let alone with my camera. :)
Great POV, incredible sharpness and details.
