En. Pied Wagtail, Fi. Västäräkki, Ge. Bachstelze, Sw. Sädesärla

I have post this little fellow before, I took a shot of him 2005-04-16. Look here.
I recognize him because of the missing foot. We have about 50-100 Pied Wagtail down by the rivers and I meet this little fellow once again.
The Pied Wagtail is a common bird in the summer and stay very long into the autumn before it moves to the south.

There are two races of this species in Europe, since the wagtails in Britain and Ireland have darker backs and are known as Pied Wagtails. In the White Wagtails of mainland Europe, the back is storm-cloud grey and the black nape and black bib which border the white face don't meet at the side of the neck.
Breeds in rural and urban buildings and walls. Feeds on short grassland or beside inland or coastal waters. Also winters in towns and cities.
A very common breeding bird throughout Britain. Large roosts often occur on passage and in winter, particularly in reedbeds. White Wagtails (the nominate race M.a.alba) are regular on passage, both on the east and west coast.
Widespread and numerous in most of Europe.
300 000 territories in Britain, most abundant in the north and east, with a further 130 000 territories in Ireland.
8-11 million breeding pairs throughout western and southern Europe.

Hi Gert, even without foot he looks to be getting on pretty well. Lovely shot, nice pose - what is that in it's beak - I can't quite make it out? Lovely shot.

Great shot Gert! I like this excellent pose with what looks like a small minnow in its mouth..I like the setting with the blues of the water complimenting the wagtails colors very well..Good details, colors and
sharpness with the missing foot adding interest to the shot.. I like it very much and well done my friend!!

Gert, very beautiful colors here.

The moment is great - after all, that's how life goes on.

A nice pose and very nice shades of blue.

Great POV and composition on this shot, Gert. Beautiful bird with sharp details and light. I really like the color of the water, and the slanted pose of the bird. TFS. : )

Hello Gert

I like the POV of this shot. The lack of a second foot doesn't appear to stop this bird from having fun. Good capture with the bug firmly held in the beak. Nice work. Thanks

The bird on your photos looks better than the ones I’ve got out in the forest back of my house.

Great clarity and details.
