Kålfluga, Delia Radicum, Cabbage root fly
It’s a very small fly about 5-8 mm long. We have two species of them.
Delia Radicum and bigger Delia Floralis. The Maggots are a real pest.

/ .
The flies winter in the pupa condition and rest in the soil. As the temperature rises, the adult insects emerge from the pupa and fly freely in April and May and even into June. Several generations can appear throughout the summer months about every month or so therefore there is a continuous presence of flies as generations overlap each other.
Eggs are laid around the roots of brassicas, and although very small they can be seen by the unaided eye. Eggs laid early May will produce second generation flies by late June. Maggots emerge after about 6 days and feed on the roots before tunnelling up the main stem. Pupation takes place after about 3 weeks when the maggots are fully fed and have migrated a short distance from the attacked plant. Pupae are about 1 cm long and a reddish brown colour.

Technique:
Sigma 180 macro EX HSM, Kenko 1,4 X converter, Hand held.
ISO 200, Raw-format, One shot Autofocus
Converted, Levels/Curves, Contrast, Crop, resized to 800 pixels, converted to sRGB save as JPG for the WEB. I used Adobe Photoshop CS for PP.

Mike
Still working on the 100th. ;)

Superb shot!
I don't really like photos of flies, but this one is really great because of the details.
Unfortunately they are amazingly well seen and the fly start to look like some horror movie monster.
Anyway, I like it very much.
Well done!

Run late upgrade tomorrow. It's good to be back!

Hello Gert, lovely little fly. Very good details and composition. The focus is spot-on, very well done.

Fantastic macro Gert! A very high level of details in this little guy. I have made a couple of attempts at using my 150mm and 1.4x on flies but lost my patience quickly! Very well done my friend!

Hello again Gert!
