The Fieldfare is not well seen here, for most it's a pest, but I like them. They are very good parents, they attack you immediately it you come to close to the young birds. No hesitation, bang, a beak in you head. But this one was friendly.
I hope you like the ugly one.

Fieldfares are easily identified. They are almost as big as a Mistle Thrush but their reddish-brown backs are sandwiched between the striking cold grey colours of the head and rump. In flight the conspicuously white underwing coverts could cause confusion with Mistle Thrush, but if you can't see the grey head and rump, look for a clear contrast between the white lower belly and the black tail.
Breeds in woodland, especially birch, and in parks and gardens. Winters on farmland, entering towns in bad weather.
A rare breeding bird in Scotland, where a few pairs nest annually. A common winter visitor between October-April, mainly to farmland where huge flocks can be seen.
Very common in summer in many parts of Scandinavia, especially in parks and gardens. Also breeds in much of central Europe as far south as parts of Italy and including many areas in eastern France. Occurs widely, often in large numbers, in most of central and southern Europe in winter.
Up to a 25 pairs have been found breeding in Britain in recent years but these are widely scattered localities which are rarely occupied more than once. About a 750 000 birds are thought to winter in Britain and Ireland.

5-7.5 million breeding pairs.

Sharp and well composed with an excellent point of view. Superb background. As said Mike, it looks like our American Robin, but as you mention, with the reputation of the House Sparrow.

Hi Gert, I've never had the fortune (or misfortune) to come across one of these. It's a great shot, the colours and details are excellent. I don't think it is ugly at all. Excellent post.

Splendid shot, very sharp. The pose is fantastic and the light perfect. The BG sets out the bird at its best. A text book picture indeed.

Nice shot Gert,
Well captured, good detail and colours. Excellent sharpness and great BG. Is CS2 a big improvement?
Thanks for posting

It is a similar shape to our thrush, which must have come from England or Europe in the first place about 150 years ago.
Good capture and the details and sharpness are excellent. Well done.

Great work Gert! Excellent details and colors. I like it!!

I think this bird is beautiful, Bert. I like the contrast of brown and black in its plumage. It has gorgeous colors and patterns, which you rendered very well. I have never heard of a fieldfare before I saw your pictures. TFS. : )

Nice bird Gert. The plumage etails are very well defined. Great POV and pose. The head tilt is nice. Excellent DoF. Tack sharp too. Thanks
