Today’s post is from my archive. This is one of my fav’s, the Long-tailed Tit.
It’s not easy to get a good composition of this bird since the tail is longer than the body.
They are common up here and lives in small family groups 4-20 members.
It’s a restless bird, very mobile and never sit still but they are not shy and you will come very close to them.
I hope you like him.

Some info about the Long-Tailed Tit.
/
The Long-tailed Tit, Aegithalos caudatus, is a very small passerine bird. It breeds in most of Europe and Asia. It is a non-migratory species.
It is closely related to the true tits, and in winter it is often found with tit flocks.
This is a very small bird at only 13–15 cm in length including its very long tail, which itself makes up 7–9 cm of the total. The Long-tailed Tit is black and brown above and whitish below, with reddish flanks. It has a white crown. North European birds (A. c. caudatus) have completely white heads and flanks.
This is a restless species, constantly on the move as it searches for insects and other small food items. It is usually found in small flocks, and has been described as an avian sheep.
Long-tailed Tits are birds of deciduous woodlands with undergrowth. They nest in a tree or shrub. Six to twelve eggs are laid in a woven closed nest. The nest is held together with spider webs, and camouflaged with lichen. Adult birds will find a relative's nest and help feeding their "nephews and nieces", if their own nest is predated.
The call is loud trisyllabic srih-srih-srih.

This is a very pleasing sharp and well composed capture of the Long-tailed Tit.

Hej Gert!

Hello Gert,
The bird may be common in your part of the world but it a rare sight for a person like me living in the desert.
I am fascinated with its oval body shape and the long tail. The entire plumage is beautifully coloured.
Great image!

But they are not common to me Gert :) I love the way you composed this picture and congratulations to have been able to enter all the tail in the frame, which, I know, might not be an easy task! Details, exposure and pose of the bird are beautiful. Nice one! Thanks,

Hi Gert

You are right: due to the poses of this bird as well as their really long tail, it's quite difficult to get a great composition from them...but you managed it so nicely.
It's not perfectly diagonal, but it looks very natural and that's what i like about it :)
The details and colors are superb, as always, and the exposure is very nicely managed.
The effect of the fill-in flash is excellent and it provides the extra light that was needed to get the best of every texture.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Gert, You have so many lovely birds it is hard to pick one. This is the sort of shot i want to take in the future. Nice and close and very sharp. TFS. Murray.
