Today’s post is a beautiful Long-tailed tit. This bird is always moving around and
never sitting more the 1-3 sec, not the easiset model but they are not shy. Today when Iwas out to the forest with food for the bird, it has been a very cold period -10C to -16C
so they need a helping hand, one of the long-tailed let my touch him.
They are not easy to get a nice compo either, the long tail is longer than the body so a panorama picture would be the best fot this bird. But this one posed nice form me when he
sat in a twig just over the snow.

Some info about the Long-Tailed Tit.
/
The Long-tailed Tit, Aegithalos caudatus, is a very small passerine bird. It breeds in most of Europe and Asia. It is a non-migratory species.
It is closely related to the true tits, and in winter it is often found with tit flocks.
This is a very small bird at only 13–15 cm in length including its very long tail, which itself makes up 7–9 cm of the total. The Long-tailed Tit is black and brown above and whitish below, with reddish flanks. It has a white crown. North European birds (A. c. caudatus) have completely white heads and flanks.
This is a restless species, constantly on the move as it searches for insects and other small food items. It is usually found in small flocks, and has been described as an avian sheep.
Long-tailed Tits are birds of deciduous woodlands with undergrowth. They nest in a tree or shrub. Six to twelve eggs are laid in a woven closed nest. The nest is held together with spider webs, and camouflaged with lichen. Adult birds will find a relative's nest and help feeding their "nephews and nieces", if their own nest is predated.
The call is loud trisyllabic srih-srih-srih.

Hi Gert.
What a nice POV and cute tit. I like how your have controlled the lighting and flash work so much. It is very interesting fact: only two object (bird with tail and thin twig) and as a result - nice composition. Excellent reproduction of the snow and bird feathers. Elegant work. My best wishes and TFS.

Ricardo

Interesting presentation Gert with beautiful details of this bird partially hidden for the snow of the bottom.
The appropriate light control allows to distinguish the small details of its plumage with good focus and sharpness.
I like the captured point of view and framing that you chose for their publication.
The little catchlight is a bonus for the image.
My best regards... Ricardo

Very good contrast Gert.
I really like composition and quality here. tfs. Stev

i really like this shot, you have managed the exposure really well as it could have been blown out due to the conditions.
you have maintained some fine detail in the plumage and a nice catchlight in the eye.
all the best.

Hi Gert

This is just one more of your many amazing bird shots, especially when you capture them in the snow. Obviously the 'snow-white' snow (sorry for the parallelism) is far more difficult to capture successfully than what one might anticipate. It is highly reflective and mostly void of much colour, contrast, and detail. It might easily get over exposed thus lack any ability to show texture or interest. Yet, you make it look so easy. Never failing to surprise me anew every time I look at one of your beauties in the snow. The subject will stand out so well against the snow while the snow itself never becomes a distraction due to the negative effects or difficulties mentioned above.

This is a great capture of the little Long-tailed tit. It shows the bird with such taste and tenderness while your artistic and creative abilities reproduce the bird in all its amazing splendour.

Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. I hope that wrist is coming on just fine MF. I have been so consumed by the rat-race this last week that I could only muster some sporadic or hit-and-run activities on TN. I still got a lot of catch up to do.

Hello Gert,
This is Very well exposed, with excellent sharpness, detail, DOF and colors. Well composed, nice POV. Very well done!

Hi Gert,
Well done! White plumage on white snow is a exposure nightmare, but you nailed this one. Colors and detail look great. A good pose on the twig allowed him all in the frame perfectly.

Hello Gert,
Excellent capture.Details on white feathers are amazing.I liked POV,catchlight in eyes, pose of bird and composition a lot.Have a great weekend!
TFS..:-)

Hello Gert & Good Morning.
Excellent capture, lovely pose in this little cutie..
Perfect exposure with very good sharpness, detail, colors, and DOF. I like the composition with the bird looking back across the frame into the corner as well :)
Very well done.

Difficult stuff to photograph; the little bird as well as the snow. And the combination of the two...
Positive is that you have detail in the highlights(snow); but at the same time there's a bit of bluish cast in the snow. I quickly add that my LCD I recently bought has a calibration setup in the factory and no other specific calibration and is not characterized as well. No color management system:-).
Another nit is the black tail; the shadows deliver us no detail.
That said the image area around the beak and the eye as well as the plumage in that area are very well done in terms of pose, sharpness, detail and so forth. IMHO the image was almost a mission impossible but you survived it very well...
TFS

Hello Gert,
I guess it is the Long-Tailed day :) I like this unusual POV and composition. Details and exposure are very good too and this beautiful snow makes a perfect BG. I like these birds that we don't have here :( Well done! Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Gert,

never seen this type before so its interesting for me as I know now what to look out for. Its amazing that they will let you get so close, but then again i guess so would I if I was freezing cold and looking around for food in these temps.

Nice work Gert see you around.
