Today’s post is a beautiful Robin, This bird is quite rare up here in the winter and use to migrate to warmer places but some year the stay the winter.
I took this in the morning after a cold night (-15c). The Robin is always looking on the ground for food, often sitting under a birdfeeder since they don’t visit the feeder.
This one is posing nicely on a twig just over the snow, it look like he enjoy the winter sun.
I hope you like it.

Hi Gert,
I like so much the light here and the wonderful colors on the plumage!
You got and excellent shot very well illuminated, and managed so well the exposition to have very clear and sharp details on the robin.
Excellent the exposition to control the whites on the snow.
I like so much also the way you played with the stick and bird to build this composition.
Congratulations, thanks for share and my best regards,
JM

hi gert,
nice capture,
well composed shot,
lovely colours,
the ice makes perfect bg which is in well contrast with the bird, nice pose,
tfs & regards
pankaj

bonjour gert
magnifique,tout en rondeur.
j'aime beaucoup car je trouve extra l'onbre de l'oiseau et de la brindille sur la neige.
felicitations.

Hi Gert,
Just finished my critique on your previous photo (tit) and went back to the gallery and saw this one;
I like it more if I compare; difficult to compare though.
I like the general colouration. The 'colour' in the snow can be interpreted as it was due to low sunlight and not as a cast. In other words it can be viewed as a moody aspect or something like that.
Very good image and great sharpness.
Well done
TFS

Ricardo

Another beautiful capture my friend with the same type of scenario that the previous one, in this case enhanced by the colors of the bird making so good contrast with the snow.
I like the captured point of view generating an aesthetic shade and the consequential framing.
My best regards... Ricardo
The lighting and focus offer very good details of the plumage with a small and pleasant catchlight.

Cze¶c Gert.
Przepiêkne kolory, dobra ostro¶c no i ten niesamowity ptaszek...

Hi Gert.
What a nice sunny winter shot. I like its cropping containing all interesting subjects (twig and bird on it, shadow from them and nice illuminated snow cover). I like the crisp sharpness, vivid colours and perfect with lighting (including flash) so much. Your contact with bird is amazing too. Well done and TFS.

Hello Gert

This is indeed a very beautiful robin and a great capture!
I'm sure the exposure was pretty difficult to set correct here (probably the metering, too)...so great job!
A personal curiosity would be exactly how many shots from this POV did you shoot in order to feel confident you got one right (i know you are en expert, but i personally...even if i'm 100% sure i've got it righ from the first time, i still take one...for better mathematical chances:) )
I really like the colors here - very nice and well saturated, the great contrast and the lovely super sharp details on the bird.
The shadow on the snow is a nice touch, too.
All-in-all a charming composition!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

+27C today in Auckland - officially!
I love your robin Gert, and to see him pearched on the twig is quite amazing - shows how light he must be... Your ducks would have flattened it!!

Great colours and details, TFS

Hi Gert

Love this shot of a beautiful Robin. With the POV it looks like he is using stilts to walk in the snow. The light in this shot is beautiful and the white snow handled perfectly. Thank you MF! :-)

Hi Gert

I sure hope you are doing fine MF. You should be well on your way recovering from your surgical intervention. Hope all is bright and sunny, maybe not with your winter weather, but at least as far as your wrist is concerned. Sorry for taking so long to update this critique, but the sandman has stolen my clock and time is at very short supply.

This little robin is just fabulous. It reflects like fire on the ice. The beautiful simplistic composition has all the elements that gave it massive visual impact. The subject absolutely jumps out of the frame and fills the eye with its exquisite beauty. Great stuff.

Again you have captured the shot with amazing technical precision with the snow in perfect balance to the rest of the photo. No OE or UE while the contrasts clearly show the delicate textures. The colours on the bird of course are purely stunning, the details are spot-on, and the exposure could not be faulted.

Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Gert,
The white BG and a rust colored bird make a striking picture here. The light coming from a 45 degree ( Rembrant's preferred lighting ) is amazing. The catchlight in the bird's eye is also superb.
I have one question. when you have a such bright BG like snow how do you compensate the exposure for a dark subject ( do you overexpose! )

Hi Gert,
Nice capture, well composed shot,
and lovely colours.

Hi Gert,
It's an excellent shot in every way..
It would clone-out the offending straw that takes away from your subject....and make it perfect.
Very well done.

Magníficos colores en esta imagen sencilla pero no por ello fácil de obtener, con la nitidez y detalles que tú has logrado.
Perfecto encuadre.
Un cordial saludo, JL.
