Todays's post is a common bird , the Great Tit.
I got this one when the some sunbeam hit so the fine colours are well shown.

The Great Tit, Parus major, is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe and Asia in any sort of woodland. It is resident, and most birds do not migrate.
It is an easy tit to recognise, large in size at 14 cm, with a broad black line (broader in the male) down its otherwise yellow front. The neck and head are black with white cheeks and ear coverts. Upperparts are olive. It has a white wingbar and outer tail feathers. In young birds the black is replaced by brown, and the white by yellow.
There are many races of this widespread species, but they fall into three groups. Birds in temperate Europe and Asia are essentially green above and yellow below. Great Tits in China, Japan and southeastern Russia are green above and white or yellow-tinged white below, and birds in India and southeast Asia are grey above and whitish below.
It is, like other tits, a vocal bird, and has a large variety of calls, of which the most familiar is a "teacher, teacher", also likened to a squeaky wheelbarrow wheel. Interestingly, the birds from the two south Asian groups of races do not recognise the calls of the temperate Great Tits, and they may be a separate species.
Any hole will do for a nest, and it will readily take to nest boxes. The number in the clutch is often very large, but seven or eight white eggs, spotted red, are normal, with bigger clutches being laid by two or even more hens. The bird is a close sitter, hissing when disturbed.
Like other tits, its food is insects, especially caterpillars when feeding young, and seeds. In England, Great Tits learned to break open the foil caps sealing bottles of milk that had been delivered to homes to get at the cream floating on top. This is a common and popular European garden bird, due to its acrobatic performances when feeding on nuts or seed. It will join winter tit flocks with other species.

A common bird for you perhaps, but not for me here in Canada. And although this may be a common bird, it is an uncommon capture. I love the colours and details, right down to the reflection on the beak! Superb!

Hi Gert,
a fine capture of this regular garden visitor. The technical part is really well performed: all is sharp and colours (including the white cheek) is well exposed. The only nit is the pose of the bird. With some eye contact this would have been a winner. But the picture is great anyhow. Cheers, Jacob

Morning Gert

Stunning as always. No nits here MF. Brilliant camera work. :-)

Hi Gert.
Once more your perfect bird picture. I think the exactness of the exposure and colour reflection are principal points of this shot. It is visible on a dynamic range of white spot (feathers) on the tit's head. Lighting is soft and very impressive. Colors are clear and rich. BRAVO. Skillfully done and pleasant for look picture of this cute bird. TFS and bets regards.
Alexei.

Nice image, Gert.

Hi Gert

Another wonderful shot from you, my friend!
I just stood and admired the details on this one for seconds...they are just outstanding! Beginning from the beak and head and ending at its little talons...they are all really as sharp as it can gat...there is no way anything else can be sharper :)
I also love the colors here - very rich and excellently saturated.
The reflection from the beak is a great touch, and the pose of the tit is cute and interesting.
All-in-all a terrific work!

Bravo and TFS

Hej Gert,
Lovely capture of the Great Tit. Spring fever has already hit him down here so he's singing all day long which brings us some hope of better days!! I like the pose you've captured here, razor sharp and nice colours too. Very nice illustration on how they hold on to a branch with their claws.
TFS - ha det gott! Ulla

Una especie de ave muy retratada en los últimos tiempos aquí en TN Gert, pero que siempre es grato volver a ver con capturas como esta, con excelente agudeza, bellos colores y una composición armoniosa.
Gracias y mis mejores saludos... Ricardo

A species of bird very depicted in the last times here in TN Gert, but that it is always pleasing see again with captures as this, with excellent sharpness, beautiful colors and harmonious composition.
Thank you and my best regards... Ricardo

Hello Gert,
I like this POV and great details you captured on this beautiful bird. What amaze me with small bird is to see the size of their claws :) This is impressive! Exposure and composition are beautiful. This is a very nice little bird, Thanks,
Claudine

Awesome capture here Gert and great pose.

Good light has attended to the underneath of him leaving not a shadow on him and loads of detail. We are all left wondering what he's looking at. Very well done

What a beauty Gert!
I especially like this composition with a lil bird that is not glinting at us, but is busy looking at something other than the lens!

The detail and colours are outstanding!

Hi Gert

No matter how many photos I see of this little bird and its cousin, the blue tit, I remain amazed at its shear beauty, every time. Yes, it is true that there are many other beautiful birds as well, but I’m not looking at those at this very moment. Right now I’m enjoying this bird on this photo and I am expressing my appreciation of this photo. This posting just proves my point since you so skilfully captured and reproduced the graceful features and stunning colours of this passerine.

As you mentioned, the streak of light shining on to the tit really brought out its splendid colours and the DOF ensured remarkable definition of the details. The BG showing the sky and some OOF twigs worked very well to enhance the bird.

Good work MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot
