Today’s post is a beautiful Redpoll, I took this picture in this morning when I was out to test my new lens.
The weather was not the best, overcast and gray day but not cold, -3C
The snow helps to bright up.
It’s a quite common bird here and most of them it stay the winter.
They are very acrobatic birds and very often sitting upside down.
The have a beautiful song, sound like small bells
I took it down our small river on a sunny day with clear blue sky.

some info about the Redpoll
The Redpoll is a small streaky brown finch usually located by its loud rattling call. Redpolls can usually be identified by the little red spot on the forehead which gives them their name. In females, however, this red colour can be indistinct and in juveniles it can be lacking altogether. Such birds would have to be identified by their small size, chunky shape and streaky dark brown plumage, lacking the greens and yellows of Serins or Siskins or the white in the wing and tail of a Linnet or Twite.

Hello Gert,
This is not a common bird to me. I think those guys are so beautiful and I have never seen them here but we might have them too. I like this POV which is very unusual. It gives the impression that you were higher than the bird. Details, exposure and composition are very good too. Thanks,
Claudine

Hej Gert,
Very nice shot of Gråsiskan with your new lens. I can see that thanks mainly to the snow, you could use ISO 200 with no problem.
I must say, I am impressed with the sharpness in this well composed shot.

Good work here Gert,

Nice light, exposure ok (quite testing actually with the dark bird with snow and white BG.) good details, POV ok but would prefer it a bit lower. Looks like you're going to have some fun with that new lens!

Hello Gert,
Nice carpture!
I like lit and colors. Good pose and interecting composition.

Ricardo

In spite of the reigning cold, the warm colors palette obtained Gert is one of the strong points of the composition, besides the aesthetic point of view showing good details due to the focus and obtained sharpness.
The small catchlight is an additional bonus.
My best regards... Ricardo

Hi Gert,
You have the boy and I the girl.
Your capture is far superior to mine, the colors, details and composition are all great, thanks Gert for sharing.

Hi Gert

This species is on my wish list. I know we have them in certain parts of New Zealand, but as yet I have not seen one at all. An outstanding shot. You have all the elements to make this perfect. Thank you MF. :-)

Hi Gert,
I'm back after some week break.
And I see, you have wonderful birds here, I like this one very much.
Last year you told me, you don't have them at your home - yes - they visited my garden ;-)
But this year they stayed in Sweden I think, I haven'd seen a single one ;-(
So I'm happy you show us yours in such wonderful quality, thanks and greetings

Hi Gert

This is great work with the new lens. I can already witness and appreciate the vast improvement in reach that this lens provides you since it is a stunning capture of this little redpoll.

The composition is excellent. However, if you would pardon me for nit picking, it is a slight pity that there is a small piece of twig that seems to grow out of the birds head. It always amazes (well actually 'frustrate' might be the better description) how twigs or blades of grass always (I mean always, always, always) have to get in the way to bugger up an otherwise perfect shot. I have so many good (if not perhaps great) shots of animals which I probably will never post, just because of an unwanted twig or blade of grass that spoiled it. Especially when visiting a game park and you have to shoot from your car it can become very frustrating because you cannot alter your vantage point apart from maybe moving forward or backward with the vehicle. You have not ability to come around or move closer or further away from the subject in order to try and avoid the twig or obstacle. Well I suppose that is why a superb shot, one that is free from these kinds of interferences, are so much more worth the while.

Anyway, the colours, details, and exposure on this shot is just stunning.

Very well done MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot
