Your capture is really wonderful: exact exposure, soft light, extreme sharpness, the best pose to see colours by both sides, same level pov, exquisite composition,...

European Goldfinch is definitely a bird that I love. When I was young, there were flocks of them and many persons had a caged one. They sing beautifully and are very affectionate with the person that cares it. Today you can see them, though not so often.

I could not take any picture of this remarkable bird from close distance for all year. Since the early childhood we held these birds of the house. They are my favorite birds. Hello Gert,

A very beautiful profile of this colorful bird! The clean composition is very appropriate for such a presentation! I salute the lack of distracting objects and the use of a neutral background to isolate the subject! This makes the reading of the bird's silhouette easier!
The colors contrast very good in the subject while they remain subdued in the background, thus drawing the eyes towards the Goldfinch. They are well saturated and add more life to your picture. Did you know that the strongest contrast occurs between black and yellow? I wonder why would these birds draw attention on their wings?
The relatively small aperture allowed a consistent sharpness throughout the foreground, which rendered perfect details in both plumage and branch. The great exposure prevented the details to get lost in highlights and shadows. An excellent capture with very interesting notes! Thank you!

It is a beautiful bird Gert. I love his colours and fluffy breast feathers. And he is looking right at you too.
He was saying that you deseeve this photo after waiting 2 hours for him on a "warm day @ 0c"!!!!

Godfinch is a lovely bird, Gert, but how beautiful it looks in a picture depends on who took it.
Needless to say, a picture of it from a photographer of your calibre is bound to be much more beautiful than the model itself.
That you had to wait for two hours to get this shot also re-affirms the fact that truly great pictures are made through a lot of patience and perseverance.

C'est un très beau portrait que tu as réussi là mais la prochaine fois précise au sujet qu'il ne faut pas regarder l'objectif afin de faire plus naturel. L'éclairage fait bien ressortir les couleurs et détails mais ce qui est le plus important c'est l'attitude majestueuse et dominatrice de cet oiseau que tu as su restituer dans ta publication.

Hi Gert

As I said previously, this new lens was made to be in your hands. Delicate wrist or not. This shot is so sharp that I am scared it's going to damage my monitor and split the screen pixels in half.

The bird played really well with you for this shot. It gave you an excellent pose with that over-the-shoulder look while the rest is basically in a full side on view. Amazing colours and perfect contrasts assisted to give this shot mega appeal.

This is very nice Gert. One of the best shots of this attractive species I've seen. We get them here too (introduced of course) and always hard to get near.
Superb plumage details and sharpness. The camera/lens combo seems to work really well.
Great composition as usual. Well worth the two hour wait.
