[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today’s post is also a small beauty, the Northern chequered skipper, Carterocephalus silvicola, Svartfläckig Glanssmygare.
I found the first for a couple a weeks ago but couldn’t id it, but with help of Ivan I got the right ID. Thanks Ivan.
It’s not that common in Sweden but locally you can find them in quite big numbers.
I like it when it’s sitting on a Geranium sylvaticum flower, Wood Crane's-bill,
but it’s pity that right wing was not out.
I hope you like it too.

Wingspan 24-30 mm. The male fore wing is yellow with black spots. The hind wing is also yellow, but has a greyish dusting, especially by the inner margin. The yellow colour on the female hind wing has been reduced to spots, and on the fore wing to a row of yellow dots near the outer margin and to a central patch partly covered by oval brownish black spots. However, the yellow area in the discal area always forms a continuous band from the costal margin to inner margin. This distinguishes it from the Chequered skipper (Carterocephalus palaemon).

Hello Gert,
We don't have this little Skipper down here so it's very nice to see it!! It's colours and pattern are more striking than most Skippers. Brilliant capture, super sharp, nice colours and I do lilke the Geranium flower. Lovely composition!

A brilliant capture from you as usual, Gert.
The composition with the flower is stunningly beautiful.
This species of the Skipper you have in Sweden has very interesting patterns and colours on its wings.
Thanks for sharing this lovely image and warm regards.

Hello Gert,
for today, you complete the species of the genus Carterocephalus with silvicola. Nice to see the sharp details of the wing upperside and the skipper-specific designed antennae. Colours and structures of the flower are also beautifully presented. The background appears slightyl noisy in spite of ISO 200 (?) (I have a new computer and a better computer screen since last weekend).
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Gert

A beautiful posting - the geranium is so delicate and provides an excellent foil to the stronger colours of the skipper. The detail is excellent.

Hi Gert,
Both the butterfly and the flower make a really nice image. Wonderful colours and composition.

Hi Gert,
Doesn't this butterfly know anything about style? Surely he realises that the mauve doesn't go at all with his tan.
Never mind ...
Good detail and composition.
Another great butterfly shot.
Excellent job.

Beautiful photo! I like the colours very much and the technical level is very high with perfect sharpness and balance. I don't know much a bout butterflies, but may have to learn a bit as you keep posting these lovely photos of them.... ;o)

P.S Trevlig sommar du också, Gert!

Like the comp and colour contrast bet butterfly and flower. Image was a little noisy, especially since ISO was 200 .. not sure why. Did a workshop.

TFS!

Ooops - guess you have not allowed workshops ... cant post mine.

Hello Gert,
Flower and skipper are beautiful. I like this pov and composition. Nice background with 3D effect. Very well done.
JC

Very beautiful macro Gert.
Sharpness and exposure are superb.
Light, details, soft green color tones in the BG, against wich the butterfly and flower do stand out greatly, and colors are most wonderful.
Perfect work. A real joy to llok at.
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards, Harry

I love the composition on this one, both flower and skipper fill in the frame with fantastic results, plus all those rich colors setting on the dark green background give this image an extra push for added appeal. Well done Gert. :)

Hola Gert,
Una composición muy bella con gran nitidez y una luz y fondo agradables, TFS. Saludos
