Yes, you're right, this is S. vulgatum. This sharp shot in this pose makes it relatively easy to see the ID features. Excellent composition and BG make this up to usual high standard.

Wow, that enlargement is fantastic - how did you do that?? Superb capture from a nice POV showing fantastic sharp details and natural colours of this little Sympetrum. I'm sure you'll soon have plenty of them up there too!

A marvelous macro of this dragonfly. Colors are wonderful and details are as sharp as can be. I love how he is holding on to what appears to be a dead flower. Wonderful wing positions. As always, a beautiful composition.
