First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post.

The Eurasian Jay is a quite shy bird but it is very often around our hide and it has been less shy the last week, ok it helps to bribe him with nuts.
This one was almost to close for my 400mm and I could not get the whole bird, soI cropped it as a portrait. The snow helps to bright up the plumage. I really like the eyes, they are amazing.

The Eurasian Jay is a common bird in the south and middle parts of Sweden,
It’s a quite big bird, body length 32-37 cm a wing span 54-58 cm and weight around 170 gram. And it’s stays the winter.

The Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) occurs over a vast region from Western Europe and north-west Africa to the eastern seaboard of Asia and down into south-east Asia. Across its vast range, several very distinct racial forms have evolved to look very different from each other, especially when forms at the extremes of its range are compared.
In Europe, "Jay" is used by people who speak the English language as a synonym for the Eurasian Jay.
The Eurasian Jay was one of the many species originally described by Linnaeus in his 18th century work Systema Naturae. He recognised its affinity with other corvids, naming it Corvus glandarius
A member of the widespread jay group, and about the size of the Jackdaw, it inhabits mixed woodland, particularly with oaks, and is an habitual acorn hoarder. In recent years, the bird has begun to migrate into urban areas, possibly as a result of continued erosion of its woodland habitat.

I don't think I have ever seen a Jay so close and with such sharpness and details either in real life of from a photo.
Superb portrait against a wintery BG and presenting the head and front half of the body down to the striking blue and black wing feathers in a great composition.

What a great portrait of this superb jay, my friend!
It's a little funny hearing that a bird was "too close for a shot" :) But you did great here and by croping this one, you really managed to bring out those extra details and colors, especially those blues and blacks that are very charming here.
You were also a bit lucky to have caught it with only the tip of the head in direct sunlight and that really draws the attention to that amazing eye. I have to agree with you one more aspect - the snow in the BG really helps to emphasize the bird.
All-in-all: another wonderful work from you!

How well exposed your all winter shots. Your use metering modes precisely. Your portrait of this beautiful bird is perfect at every respect. I met this species only in Crimea at once and took one-or two bad shots in the dark forest. I have no chance to see these birds and I watch your brilliant picture with great pleasure.
