Today’s post is Reed Bunting a common bird up here and it lives often in thick clump of reeds. It’s a migratory bird and arrives in the middle of April.
It’s a very nice bird with an almost black head but this is a young one.
He posed nicely for me in the backlight so I got a decent shot.

The Reed Bunting, Emberiza schoeniclus, is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae, a group now separated by most modern authors from the finches, Fringillidae.
It breeds across Europe and much of temperate and northern Asia. Most birds are migrate south in winter, but those in the milder south and west of the range are resident. It is common in reedbeds and also breeds in drier open areas such as moorland and cultivation.
The Reed Bunting is a medium sized bird, 13.5-15.5 cm long, with a small but sturdy seed-eater's bill. The male has a black head and throat, white neck collar and underparts, and a heavily streaked brown back. The female is much duller, with a streaked brown head, and is more streaked below.
The familiar, if somewhat monotonous, song of the cock is a repetitive zrip.
Its natural food consists of insects when feeding young, and otherwise seeds. The nest is in a bush or reed tussock. 4-7 eggs are laid, which show the hair-like markings characteristic of those of buntings.

Hello Gert,
I was just about to swich off the computer and go out in the sunshine when this superb capture of the Reed Bunting appeared! I love its pose and the light, very artistic and beautiful. Great sharpness and fine colours too. Wonderful composition!

I like so much the dark aspect of the image, with that green hues at the back, and the good light on the bird that stands out it so well.

The bird and the bush are bathed in an ethreal glow in this great image, Gert. I can't imagine how you went about creating this fantastic effect.
The dark BG contributes immensely in creating this effect.

Very very nice picture with that wondeful bg enhancing so much the bird and the vegetation! Having the bird's color and vegetation being the same show a strong relationship between both! The camouflage within the vegetation is great for sure and works very well! You got a great POV and look at this wonderful side light!

Superb capture of a female Reed Bunting: the sharpness and composition are up to you high standard, but what makes this image special is the extraordinary lighting. Composition against a dark natural BG is also superb.
