First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post,

This is a follow up from my last post; The Goldcrest is a beautiful and small bird
and often sitting deep in a fir but this time I was lucky the get a quite clean shot and still got a bit of the habitat. It’s also quite dark but a weak sunbeam found the way down through the twigs and hit the bird. I don't know what the Goldcrest are looking at. I have never got any decent shot of this bird before but know when we have a hide it's quite easy to come close to it.

The Goldcrest Regulus regulus is a very small passerine bird in the kinglet family, resembling the Firecrest but with a plainer face. It breeds in most of temperate Europe and Asia but is partly migratory and northern birds winter south of the breeding range. It prefers coniferous woodlands, although it has a wider range in winter, when it is often found with tit flocks. It builds an open nest and lays 4-12 eggs.

The Goldcrest is the smallest European bird, measuring from 8.5 to 9.5cm. It is dull greenish above, with buffy white underparts, two white wingbars, a plain face with a conspicuous black eye. The crown has black sides and a narrow black front, and a bright central crest, orange in the male and yellow in the female, which is displayed during breeding. It is a restless species, constantly on the move as it searches for insects.

Goldcrests on the Canary Islands have a broader black band across the forehead, and yellower wingbars and belong to separate subspecies. They are sometimes considered a separate species, but usually are included in the goldcrest. Recently, it has been established that there are in fact two distant Canary Islands populations: the Tenerife Goldcrest (R. (r.) teneriffae) and the Western Canary Islands Goldcrest (R. (r.) ellenthalerae) (Päckert et al., 2006).

The Goldcrest is the national bird of Luxembourg. In Britain, Goldcrests were previously called Gold-crested Wrens, and are celebrated in a poem by Charles Tennyson Turner with that title.

Hi Gert.
Except the wonderful pictured scene the key points of the shot are amazing combination of lights and darks (IMHO). Light spots on the bird chest and twig at the lower left-hand corner are so impressive. Colours are perfectly saturated. Details of the main subject are razor sharp. I like wonderful pictorial BG. It is great too. My compliments and TFS. Blameless job.
Alexei.

Hi Gert

A truely wonderful photo that has them all!
I really like the pose in which you've managed to capture this lovely goldcrest and the way some parts of its head are in such a great sunlight.
The details are crispy clear and look awesome and i also love that gorgeous BG that presents all those blurred and very discrete lines (the pine needles) displayed in every direction. Charming work!

Bravo and TFS

Ahhh this is a good shot Gert. Great pose
Wel composed with excellent sharpness and plumage details. And a good contrasting OOF background.

Chris

Hi Gert,
AMAZING plumage details and excellent focus on this lovely little bird!!! NATURAL LIGHT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL - ON MY FAVORITE FOR THAT! Nice pose of the bird!
Thanks for sharing,

Claude

hello Gert

of your photo what i like most is the framing,
that place in front of the bird, and in this photo
the bird looking up, so that place is in top of the image

EXCELLENT framing, thanks again to your wonderful photos

Gert, this fatty fellow is very beautiful.

Great moment, great pose and composition. The bg has a very nice pattern.

Hello Gert,
fascinating, charming portrait of the Goldcrest touched by a beam of sunlight in its dark hide. Very clear details, perfectly controlled light. Marvellous composition coming with a perfectly structured blurred background that has all the properties of a good painting. And the emotionally touching pose of looking up against the light does have metaphysical qualities. Great.
My congratulations. Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Hello Gert,

Wow....., what a beauty this Goldcrest. The lightfall is so natural. The shadow from the branches and the sunlight reflecting on the feathers. Here pose is amazing. Great eyecontact. Natural colours. The compo is very relaxing. I'm agree with the fact what Claudine said: "not an easy shot" Thanks for sharing. The eggs where as always very interesting. Regards and TFS BOB
