Today’s post is a quite rare bird and not often seen here on TN, I post two pictures of it last year. Ralf asked me today about this bird today so I dug in the archive and find this one. The Siberian Jay normally lives far north but we have a very small population in our county, there is about 3-4 birds. They are not tame but very unafraid for people, in fact they like people, in the past days the hold the woodmen company and shared the fire and food. They best to come very close is to bribe them with sausage, (especially the Swedish Falun sausage). Just put out some pieces in a tree and they will come within 5 min if they are around. This one collects so much so he couldn’t close the beak, filled up to the eyeballs ;-)
I hope you like him.

PLS
No points for this, I have given them up like some others. I have turn of the points, so save your green ones

Siberian Jays are rather comical birds, fluttering around in the branches of pine trees or hopping about on the ground like overgrown tits. They are often silent and tend to bunch together in small parties so they can be tricky to find, but if you do see them they can be very approachable and will often fly right up to you. They are unmistakable birds about Mistle Thrush-size but with rusty red tails and wing panels.

Hi Gert.
What a great moment has been captured. I like precise timing a lot. Amazing details and sharpness of the trunk, bird and snow. Superb BG and so impressive POV. Framing and composition are the best as usual. Is this bird ringed? I see the ring on the left legs. Bravo. Excellent work.

Superb shot Gert!
Very sharp with great detail and clarity.
Excellent composition.
DOF is slightly too shallow but that's hardly a problem :)
Even exposure and superb lighting.
Very good BG as well.

Hello MF.
You show us this rare bird, and he is a beautiful fellow. You have composed the bird with great details, and I love his colours - and the snow on his beak.
Thank you Gert,
Janice

Hej Gert,
These birds seem so charming and I love their colours against the snow. A species I'd love to see! This is very well captured - I think he's just gobbled up his sausage! I expect the few you have in Gästrikland are all ringed? Great sharpness and lovely colours in this fine composition.
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hi Gert,
This is an unusual bird indeed that I have not seen often. Its tones of colors are impressive and beautiful. This is a nice pose captured in excellent exposure. I think that it head might have moved a lot as I think it could be clearer but I realize that you used quite a slow shutter speed which might explain this little blur. TFS,
Claudine

Hello Gert,

Great picture of this rare bird! Great timing to have it singing like this... Interesting to realize that several jay species seems to be quite unafraid of humans...

Great bg, natural colors and I like also your composition with that branch doing a diagonal and the bird quite horizontal...

Good shot and TFS!

Hello Gert,
Nice rare bird, he seems greedy ;-) I notice that he has a metallic ring...
The "+++" : composition, nice subject, POV, sharpness, DOF, blurred BG, exposure, useful complementary note...
The "-" : nothing as usual...
Bravo my friend and thanks for sharing,
Christian

nicelly composed, lovely colors,

Gert, besides being a perfect capture, this picture has a humorous aspect to it. The greedy fellow has its mouth a bit too full!
It is a great pleasure to see the pictures of such rare birds on TN.
Thanks for sharing and best regards.
