My post from yesterday was deleted because of my clumsiness, instead of click on edit I clicked on delete, I will re-post it later. 

I have been digging in my archives again and find this; it’s taken back in 2005.
This bird, the Spotted Nutcracker or nutcracker, is not common but not rare, it lives in fir forest in Scandinavia and northern Europe. There is also another species of nutcracker with a thin bill that lives in Russia, Siberia and all the way to Japan. Even bird experts have problem to see the difference.
The birds that lives here are very shy and don’t let you come close.
But In the autumn the nutcracker from the east come over here quite often and they are not shy.
I think this individual is one from the east since it was not afraid and let my come close.
The quality of this picture is not the best but I want to share it with you since it is not often seen on TN.
I hope you like the Nutcracker.

PLS
No points for this, I have given them up like some others. I have turn of the points, so don’t waste your green ones.

The Spotted Nutcracker, or just Nutcracker, (Nucifraga caryocatactes) is a passerine bird slightly larger than the Eurasian Jay. It has a much larger bill and a slimmer looking head without any crest. The feathering over its body is predominantly a chocolate brown with distinct white spots and streaks. The wings and upper tail are virtually black with a greenish-blue gloss. It is one of two species of nutcracker, the other, Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana), replacing it in western North America.
The Spotted Nutcracker has an extensive range forming a broad swath east-west from Scandinavia right across northern Europe, Siberia and to eastern Asia, including Japan, inhabiting the huge taiga conifer forests in the north.
Three further disjunct populations occur in mountain conifer forests further south, one centered on the mountains of central and southeast Europe (the Alps, the Carpathians and the Balkan Peninsula mountains); another in the western Himalaya; and the third in western China seaboard and separated from the northern population by a relatively small gap in the north centre of China. Some of the populations can be separated on bill size

Hej Gert,
Though I have some old digiscoped shots of the Nutcracker taken in Umeå I have nothing as good as this. Though this is a relatively old image the quality is excellent IMHO and I like the low POV, pose and composition. The mud on the bill is interesting and makes one wonder if it also feeds on worms as well as seeds and the kernels of cherry stones.
Thanks for sharing this excellent image of a bird not often seen on TN.
Hälsningar,
Ivan

Hi Gert,

I have never seen a Nutcracker before but from this excellent shot I would recognize one if I came across one. Such beautiful shades of brown with those wonderful white markings. Details are crisp and clear - as always. A lovely pose and a lovely setting.

Hi Gert.
I hope you really will post deleted shot again. I will restore my comments word by word :))).

I see you produce amazing shot with every camera of any brand. Wonderful scene, amazing rich colours and great DOF (not shallow, note so wide). Exposure, lights and colours are fantastic as well as the framing and composition. Dry leaves and cone decorate the grass carpet excellently. Bravo and my warm greetings.
Alexei.

Hey Gert, old friend - that's what happen when you get old - you press the wrong buttons and delete more than you want to.

I'm pleased you said: "The quality of this picture is not the best," as I thought my eyesight had started to fuzz over - that's what happens when you get old!! LIKE ME!!

He is a pretty fellow with his brown and white designs.

Thank you for sharing
