First I will thank you all for the nice comments and words of my previous post.

This is a Whinchat, a beautiful bird who quite common up here.
I took this in an open field, the Whinchat use to sit high up on stick or a tree for a good view of
the neighborhood and some of them are a bit shy but this one let me come near.
Taken with my long Sigma zoom 150-500 attached to my new Canon 40d.
The 1d MII is sold, it was too heavy for my poor wrists . ;-((

PLS.
No points for this, I have given them up like some others. I have turn of the points, so don’t waste your green ones.

The Whinchat, Saxicola rubetra, is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher, Muscicapidae. It, and similar small European species, are often called chats.
It is a migratory insectivorous species breeding in open rough pasture or similar uncultivated grassland in Europe and Asia. It nests in tussocks. All birds winter in Africa.
The Whinchat is similar in size to the European Robin. Both sexes have a yellowish rump and white tail, with a black terminal band. The summer male has brownish upperparts, buff throat and blackish head sides. It has a strong white supercilium. There are white wing patches.
The female has pale brown head sides, a buff supercilium and no white wing patches.
The male has a whistling, crackly song. Its call is a typical chat “chack” noise or a soft whistle.
This species represents a fairly basal divergence of the genus Saxicola (Wink et al. 2002).

Hi Gert.
What an attractive pose of the bird you have pictured. I like glance of the bird, simple and so amazing subject and terrific details of the plumage, beak and eye of the bird as well as its prey and twig. Colours of the BG and its blurriness are splendid. Well done and best wishes.

Hi Gert

Great shot of this species that is new to me I think, I don't recall seeing anyway. The new camera and lens combo have given you an exellent result. I'm thinking about buying this lens myself, everyone seems to get good results with it.
Excellent composition
Excellent sharpness
Great uniform OOF background
Good POV and DOF
