First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post.

The Eurasian Jay is a quite shy bird but it is often very noisy but it flies quite on soft wings and you will not hear it when it come. This was taken last year from our hide.
I call it “blue eye” because it had very lovely blue eyes and the bird is normally pretty colorful but the colors here are a bit dull because of the quite dark light in the forest this time of year. I had to use 1/100sek and that mostly to long shutter speed for birds bit sometimes it works quite good.
The Eurasian Jay is a common bird in the south and middle parts of Sweden,
It’s a quite big bird, body length 32-37 cm a wing span 54-58 cm and weight around 170 gram. And its stays the winter.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my TN friends.

The Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) occurs over a vast region from Western Europe and north-west Africa to the eastern seaboard of Asia and down into south-east Asia. Across its vast range, several very distinct racial forms have evolved to look very different from each other, especially when forms at the extremes of its range are compared.
In Europe, "Jay" is used by people who speak the English language as a synonym for the Eurasian Jay.
The Eurasian Jay was one of the many species originally described by Linnaeus in his 18th century work Systema Naturae. He recognised its affinity with other corvids, naming it Corvus glandarius
A member of the widespread jay group, and about the size of the Jackdaw, it inhabits mixed woodland, particularly with oaks, and is an habitual acorn hoarder. In recent years, the bird has begun to migrate into urban areas, possibly as a result of continued erosion of its woodland habitat.

Hallo Gert
Now this is what I call a good-looking bird. This is really spectacular. A lovely close-up with stunning colours and sharp details, with spot on focus. The black stripe running from the beak into the neckline is surely an eye-catcher and a great attraction. The pose of the bird is great, showing the feathers from the side in all its splendour. The patterns on the top of its head look as if it was stitch in precisely. The blue colour of the eye is amazing, almost the colour of Loot’s eyes. This was a real pleasure to look at. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
Thanks for good wishes, and the same to you and your family.

Hi Gert, a lovely and great capture of this beauty with excellent clarity and composition.
i also wish you "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" my friend!
Cheers,

Bayram

Gert,

Great shot! I really like the natural setting you've captured this bird in. This is what nature photography is all about. You've got excellent sharpness, great POV, awesome colors and a very nice composition. Great work! TFS.

Best Regards,

Martin

hi gert, wonderful shot of this bird. just seems that ît is a bit blue-tinted overall, but the sharpness is excellent. tfs.

Hello Gert,

Excellent picture of this European Jay! It is funny to realize that some common birds for some are so exotic for others! It is the case here with that Jay that I see for the first time!

Are both sex similar? Or this mustach is a caracteristic of the male ;-)

Excellent pov and exposition and I like the bg showing us the bird's environment!

Very well done and TFS!

Michel

Hi Gert,

What a stunning bird this is and you show him off perfectly. That eye is amazing - the whole face is beautiful. I love the dark feathers on the top of his head. Wings and plummage are equally beautiful. Colors and details are magnificent. The diagonal composition is superb.

Hi Gert,
this is razorsharp - a wonderful shot.

Hello Gert !
What a gorgeous picture you have here ! Everything is as close as possible to perfect : excellent sharpness and details, nice natural colors, splendid composition and POV, and a great blurred BG showing the beautiful forest where you found the bird. I specially like the eye and the expression on the jay's face. Very well done, and I wish you also a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, to you and to all those who are dear to you !

Hi Gert

Another very beautiful shot from you, my friend!
Your vast experience in this field has helped you once again and told you exactly where to position yourself so that you'd be perfectly parallel with the Jay here. That, in turn, aided you in using a very shallow DOF that as a result the subject is very sharp and still well isolated from the trees in the back.
A lesson we all should do well to remember!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, too!

Cheers and TFS

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too, Gert!
Your picture of a Eurasian Jay is a perfect image in every respect, which is a norm rather than exception in your case.

Hej Gert,
A first class portrait of a Eurasian Jay taken from your archives. You have used the 5.6 DOF just right to give total sharpness of the Jay with a fine OOF natural BG. The composition and POV are great too to present this striking birds in a superb way.
TFS and best wishes for the Season and New Year,
Ivan

Det lovas lite sol idag men eftersom vi har sonen, sin fru och barbarnet får fotografiet vänta ett tag. Ha det bra!

Hi Gert.
Fantastic three-dimensional picture of a wonderful bird. First time I saw it in Crimea in 2006 in very dark park. And alone shot was vary bad. Month ago I have met it again just near my apartment in Odessa. However, light conditions were very bad and shots were poor again. This species is in my wish list. You are more happier. You managed to create true masterpiece. Surroundings are amazing and image of the bird is brilliant in every aspect. Bravo. Superb job.
Alexei.

Hello Gert,
All your bird pictures are great, the choice is hence difficult. But I have a little "faible" for this one, because it has been taken in a very natural surrounding and it gives to the picture this special something I like in the pictures. I know this bird well, having him around my chalet. Sometimes they make quite a noise!
Thanks also for your kind critique on my Centaurea
Have a nice weekend
Anne
