First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post.

This is a Blue Tit for our young friend Joe who is eager to learn all about nature photographing.
We have a friendly discussion about lenses in the forum and told him to try a
Canon 400mm/5.6 USM but he doesn’t like the close distance focus at 3.5 meter.
I told him he could use a 20mm extension ring to get a better distance.
I when out to my feeding station this morning to find some co-operative Blue tits.
This is taken with 400mm + a 20mm extension ring at 2 meters, the picture is almost
In full frame, I cropped away 10%,

As you can see the DOF will be short in this close distance, maybe F16 would have helped. But the light in the forest is quite dark right now so I have to use a flash.

And about the Blue Tit. I think you know all about them but here is some small fact.

They are very common bird up here in the winter, so common so we almost get tired of them,
But they are quite nice in the blue/Yellow colours.
The Blue Tit, Cyanistes caeruleus, is a 10.5 to 12 cm (4.2 to 4.8 inches,) long passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common resident breeder throughout temperate and subarctic Europe and western Asia in deciduous or mixed woodlands. It is a resident bird, i.e., most birds do not migrate.

Hello Gert,

Blue tits are very nice birds. Even if common they are so full of life that I love taking photos with them. Your one is very well shown in this fine, sharp image.

There are several month I try to decide what teleobjective to buy in order to photograph birds and to fit my budget. It was your discussion with Joe that made me decide to buy a 400 f/5.6 objective. This afternoon, before seeing your photo, I ordered the objective. I want to thank you for the photo as now I am sure I took the right decision.

Best regards,
Cristian

Witaj,
ładnie skomponowane i pokazane zdjęcie.
TFS and regards
Alina

ert,
The soft, little fuzzy Blue Tit here is detailed exceptionally. Striking colors, well captured...

A beautiful picture of this cute little Blue Tit. The colors and details of his face and plumage are excellent. I love how he is looking down and the way the feathers are blowing. A remarkable background and a simple and superb composition.

Hi Gert,
thankyou very much for this :-))))
You have proved to me that photographing small birds is possible with the 400mm f/5.6 :-D
I will get one if I don't like the Sigma 120-300mm when after I buy it.
Excellent detail.
Lovely colours.
Great use of flash.
The large version is very impressive!

Very well done and thankyou so much!

Joe

hello Gert

excellent photo of the Blue Tit shot with fine POV and framing,
beautiful luminosity of the foreground, the bird and tree branch,
excellent sharpness and details, the very small catch-light
render the image more beautiful, TFS

Hello Gert,

That's very nice to dedicated this beautiful Blue Tit to our young friend Yoe. He deserves.

A great capture of this blue tit. Very good POV, DOF and BG. Only one little point of critique. I don't find the colours of the feathers this way sparkling. Maybe it's the reason of the wintercolors or maybe myself(-: You say so Gert. It's your photo and your day.

Kind regards and TFS BOB

Anyway a very nice photo.

Buen enfoque y profundidad Gert. Bien captada la delicadeza de las formas, las texturas y los colores del ave que crean mucho realismo al apreciarse perfectamente el volumen del cuerpo. Destacaría también la bonita pose del pajarillo. Un buen trabajo.

Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Gert.
I love your feeding station. It gives you and us so many true fantastic subjects. This one is from them. I also like and thank you for applied and described technique. It is great and very suitable for the situation. Full size shot is fantastic too. Bravo. Superb work and post.
