First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post.

After more tan 600 post I have problem to find anything new to post but today I found out that I never post a Bullfinch “Domherre” before and that strange because it’s a very common bird up here especially in winter when come to eat sunflower seed but it’s a bit sky and keep a long distance. In the summer we don’t see many as they us to live deep in the forest.
I found this by my feeding station this morning and it was a bit shy in the beginning but after a while it come quite close, maybe it was hungry. We have had a quite cold weather the last days so they really need food.
You can find the Bullfinch on almost every Christmas card in Sweden.
I hope you like this beautiful bird in Red and Black. The black parts are really black, almost without any details.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bullfinch, Common Bullfinch or Eurasian Bullfinch, Pyrrhula pyrrhula, is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.
This bird breeds across Europe and temperate Asia. It is mainly resident, but many northern birds migrate further south in the winter.
Mixed woodland with some conifers is favoured for breeding, including parkland and gardens. It builds its nest in a bush, (preferably more than 4 metres tall and wide),mature stands of scrub, or tree, laying 4-7 eggs. The food is mainly seeds and buds of fruit trees, which can make it a pest in orchards. If wild bird cover is planted for it,Kale, Quinoa and Millet are preferred, next to tall hedges or woodland.
This species does not form large flocks outside the breeding season, and is usually seen as a pair or family group.
The Bullfinch is a bulky bull-headed bird. The upper parts are grey; the flight feathers and short thick bill are black; as are the cap and face in adults (they are greyish-brown in juveniles), and the white rump and wing bars are striking in flight. The adult male has red underparts, but females and young birds have grey-buff underparts. The pleasant song of this unobtrusive bird contains fluted whistles.

Hej Gert,
A very fine portrait of Domherren.
You caught this male from a fine low POV in the snow and the technical quality is faultless. The composition and lighting are great too.
I would very much like to take such a shot here but they are quite rare in our part of Scania and we have not yet succeeded in attracting them to our bird feeders.
Thanks for deligting us with this beauty,
Hälsningar,
Ivan

Very nice to see you as my neighbour today and with a superb capture of a Bullfinch! I haven't seen one of those for ages - maybe they'll come here if we get snow. As usual technically perfect and I love the colours against the snow! Well done!

Hello Gert!

Absolutelly superb capture of Domherre. These birds were also common in Poland, I remember them well from my childhood. But now they're gone and I hunt for them many years without success. Back to your photo - excellent details, red shades on bird's breast and belly, POV. I'm not sure about white ballance - isn't snow too blue maybe?

Hi Gert,

This Bullfinch surrounded by all the snow is beautiful (and surely cold). He seems to be looking at you out of the side of his eye. The dark eye shines through the black feathers. Excellent colors and details of the face, wing, and plumage. Superb lighting and composition.

Jane

It might be common for you Gert, but I don't remember seeing one before. I do like the colour of his pink breast, and the black and pink but show up well against the white snow.
I am so pleased you feed your birds in winter. Many must die in the cold if they can't get food,

Hallo Gert
Just when you think you have found the most gorgeous bird or the most stunning image, Gert come and messes every thought around in your head when he pulls out another delightful "common” bird out of his hat. This is such a perfect created bird. I just love that tiny patch of royal blue between the rests of its feathers. It is unique and very special and one can almost compare it to a human's birth mark. Like always you have captured this beauty with great clarity and detail. Focus, sharpness and overall presentation is super and there are plenty of unmentioned details to appreciate and admire. The eaten seed shells in the snow rounds of this exquisite image to its fullest. I cannot but be mad about it.
Best regards.
Anna

Hi Gert.
Step by step I catch up with you and your new shots. This species is widespread in Russia but in our southern area I have never met it. I am glad that you managed to find this bird and have taken so nice photo. As usual exposure is spot on and reproduction of such various colours tones of the image is refined. My lovely sharpness is great at the picture too. Well done and best wishes.
Alexei.

Hello MF, I trust you are well. I have to say I have travelled to Lesotho to see some snow in our winter. Exceptional experience for me. Always nice to see your photos. Take care.

Such a brilliant capture against the white snow and yet exposing the bird beautifully here. I like the colorful plumage in vivid details in tact sharp focus. Fine showing with the framing so pleasing in harmony with the natural setting.

Gert,

I might be a little late, but I think this is a great picture. The color of the bird fits well with the back ground. We don't see this bird in Norther Illinois so it is fun to see your colorful pictures.
