Golden Plover

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This picture of a Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria/Ljungpipare) was taken on a slope in the Swedish alps near an alpine hut called Storulvåns Fjällstation.
We first heard it as it is the normal behavior of this bird to attract attention when someone is getting to close to it's nest. So it is often quite easy to get good pictures of it.
I used a Raynox 2.2 converter in front of the Canon S3 IS camera. That makes a total focal length of about 950 mm without reduced aperture. The price is some CA that i used Shay Stevens Color Fringe action to remove.
950 mm on freehand on 1/250 sec thanks to the excellent image stabilization in this camera!
Photoshop CS was used to:
Crop
Adjust levels
Reduce CA with Shay Stevens Color Fringe action
Unsharp mask on the light channel only
Faststone was used to:
Borders

Hej Bengt,
ljungpipare is a beautiful bird that I never been able to capture. It has a beautiful plumage. You did well wiht you little S3 but I think you can add a small dose of USM to get it sharper. Well composed, good POV and nice colours.
Well done.

Super shot of this bird in its nice summer plumage. I saw a couple on Oland this summer but never managed to get close enough.
Thanks, Ulla

A warm welcome to TN, Bengt. : )
What a beautiful bird. I love the intricate patterns on him.
Good POV and light, and as Gert mentioned, could probably benefit from a bit of sharpening.
I notice you have an S3. I do too (since this summer) and I love it.
You can click on the link S3IS under "Photo Information" to see all other photos taken by that camera. I used to be the only person for the longest time, but this past week, suddenly, the number has jumped up dramatically. : )
Regards,
ManYee

Nice shot, Bengt, as well as interesting notes. The converter worked well. So did the CA removing action. You may try USM sightly just on the bird, set at:
160 to 200
0.4 to 0.8 This is where you have to be careful.
