[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While driving through northern Sweden, we decided to take a walk to get some fresh air. On our way back to the car, we stumbled across this long-tailed skua, who probably had decided to take a break from flying around the same time.

I'm not a nature photographer, and my equipment isn't quite adapted for capturing shy birds on film, but I must say I enjoyed crawling through the grass, being eaten by hungry mosquitos, trying to get as close as I could...

Hej Janne!
Welcome to TN! You have presented the Long-tailed Skua beautifully in its environment and your shaot is sharp and well-composed. I saw it about ten years ago in Hemavan but that was before I had a digital camera.
Great start!
Regards, Ivan

Jan, thanks for sharing this photo. In my view there are two types of nature photo, the ones that show the bird or animal in close up detail, and the ones that show the animal in its natural setting. I think this is a nice example of the latter. You can see the bird well enough to identify it and yet you can see the beautiful habitat all around it ad see the birds world.

I think if you selected the bird and forefground and selectively sharpened this, and then blurred the background a litle more this could be even better. I'll try to see if I can do this as a workshop (not sure I know how)

Regards - Phil.
